I just installed 3.5 RC1 freshly to play around with it. Install went smooth but when I try to upload an image I get:

Fatal error: Class ‘Imagick’ not found in /var/www/web15/html/BETA/wp-includes/class-wp-image-editor-imagick.php on line 63

The image however is uploaded and I do see it within the media library. I thought that WP3.5 was supposed to only use imagick if its actually on the server and simply not use it when it is not present?!

I checked if imagick was even installed I got this:

    Magick Backend ImageMagick
    ImageMagick version 6.2.4
    PHP imagick version 0.9.11

So I take it this is too old or not compatible? Which version would have to be installed for it to work?

Wow that is weird. The version are really old. The imagick version is older then 8 years and I guess the ImageMagick one is the same. Will look into it why it didn’t catch it
