• Hi, all.

When trying to upload images to my new WordPress installation (https://radiodays.eu/wp/) I get the error message:

“image.jpg” has failed to upload due to an error
Unable to create directory wp-content/uploads/2012/11. Is its parent directory writable by the server?

This is not a permissions problem (I’ve set permissions on the ‘uploads’ directory and enclosed folders to 777). Googling the error has turned up no advice I’ve not already tried, so I’m at a bit of a loss.

    Can anyone offer further suggestions?

    Thanks!

    Chris

  • Try changing the permissions on the wp-content directory to 766 and delete any folders inside that you created manually. If you still have problems, try 767, 775 or 777. Once your uploads are working, change the permissions on wp-content back to 755 again and check that everything still works OK.

Thanks for the suggestion, esmi, but this didn’t work. The subfolder wp-content/uploads/2012/ for year is created but, within that, the folder for month is not; and the error message persists.

Then contact your hosts and ask them to check if you have a folder ownership problem.
