• Hi all,

I’m slowly fleshing out my new blog, Making It in Today’s Economy. After noticing that a significant share of the Web’s employment-related advice is generic, outdated, spammy, or all of the above, I decided to parlay my extensive experience in human resources (and also my own nearly year-long stint out of work!) into a substantive guide for my target audience: the unemployed, the underemployed, and the unhappily employed.

The finer details of the blog’s layout aren’t finalized yet, but I warmly welcome any feedback.

    Thank you!

  • It’s a clean, minimalist design (pretty much the default Thesis theme design), but is fine.

Two comments. The main content column is probably a bit too wide for easy reading. Having the social sharing icons on the post excerpts is probably not very useful, plus they take up too much space and detract from the overall clean, content focused design.

    its neat and nice.

Very nice site and it looks like it has some quality content. I like the fact that the forum and wordpress are both sort of integrated – did you use a plug-in for that?

Thank you all for the kind and helpful comments!

premiumwp: Many thanks! I agree with your assessment; I removed the social sharing icons on the excerpts and believe it has been a boon to the blog’s appearance. I’ll have to toy a bit more with the content column width, but the three-column layout in Thesis (my theme) is awfully finicky.

    satty005: Thank you!

admreal: Thank you as well. It is in fact a plug-in called Simple-Press. The whole forum is itself a plug-in, and it’s free. Implementing the integration aspect (e.g., auto-generate blog posts and comments in the forum), however, costs a bit of cash. ($39 gives you full access to downloading every available plugin for Simple-Press–the blog-linking plugin is just one of many.)

The feedback has been helpful so far–many thanks to anyone else who would like to chime in!
