Have you tried:
– deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).
– switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.
– resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.
– re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.
thanks for your reply.
At the moment, all plugins are deactivated. As im working on a clients site, they have just a holding page at the moment.
I feel unsure about editing anything on the ftp incase the site changes
Will the above suggestions alter the site’s homepage?
If i switch to twentyeleven will the homepage dissapear?
thanks

The site’s content is stored in its database, if that’s what you are worried about.

No – although the layout will change obviously.
are these the only ways you think it will change? As all themes preview in 3.4.1 on my site. The client currently has the pinboard theme installed but the homepage is re-directed to a holding page. Do you think this has anything to do with it?
It’s always a possibility depending upon how that page has been implemented. Try removing the holding page
Where abouts do i do that? And will that take the holding page off their current site?
I have no idea how you remove the holding page in your client’s site. Try looking to see how it’s been implemented in the first place.
