Not happy with my comments/trackback/pingback section

And I’m not sure how to fix it.

As it currently is, it mixes up everything. What I’d like to have instead would be a div before anything starts that says:

Comments(#), TrackBacks(#), PingBacks(#)
———————————————–

with links to an area below that has each of these items separated nicely, with the trackbacks and pingbacks being nothing but the time/date, and the sitename linked to the referring url.

I’ve been piddling around with this concept all day and frankly me head is about to pop off. Can anyone provide a little help in figuring out how to:

*segregate the comment types
*strip the excerpt from ping/trackbacks
