How to display single post on the same static page as a list of posts

    I would like to have a static page split into two side by side parts (say in a table), where the left hand column is a list of posts, and the right hand part displays the full post associated with the just clicked on post from the left hand column.

    If you think of Microsoft Outlook, with emails next to a preview pain, then that is what I am trying to achieve, but with posts.

    Is this possible, either with plugins, or by creating/editing a page template?
