Hi,
Site: http://www.os42.com
I could really do with a plugin which will give me the option of making a post 'stick' to the top of the page within it's given category.
I have read through so many threads on the forums that I am just very confused now.
It looked like the Adhesive plugin would be the perfect option so I installed v1.5 and activated etc etc, but I cannot get the post which has been checked as 'sticky' to actually stay at the top.
Are there any other options available other than Adhesive? Could I do this manually somehow ?
It would a very handy feature for quite a few of the ideas that I have running through my site at the moment.
Thank you for any advice you may offer :)
Why not create a new div called #sticky. Handcode it into your index. Fill it with what you like. A walk in the park. And no fiddling with quicktags.
It sounds like a great idea Root, but I don't think it's possible for what I am trying to do?
This is basically the same as Podz' idea of the CSS sticky isn't it? http://wordpress.org/support/3/10065
I have already been using that idea for a while now with the 'intro box' on my site. This works well for that purpose as it shows on every page, however, for the sticky option I need now, I only want it to appear at the top of any particular category page.
I am surprised this capability isn't more readily available as I would have thought a lot of people would use it.
I live in hope :)
There was a LONG discussion on this topic a month or two back, if I recall correctly. I know I was involved in possible approaches.
The desired effect then was to have sticky ONLY in the category view, not on home page.
Basically, you can either hack the post status to have a Sticky type (what I use) or use the meta fields to add a new sticky or extra-status flag. Minor mods to wp-blog-header and you get just the results you are looking for. The sticky hack has been sliced and diced so many times, you'll find it repeated on this site.
I haven't looked at the sticky plugins. Most of the 'general' sticky approaches were front-page-only stickies, not inner-views.

I don't like to ask David, but could you possibly tell me an easy way to make it so that I can make one simple 'sticky' post for each of my categories.
That's all I want to do really. Nothing fancy. Just an option to make one post within a category remain at the top as the first post. Is this possible? Is it easy to do?
It would seem that some of the options require permalinks turned on - which I don't have at the moment.
After reading through a hell of a lot of threads I am no wiser...
Thanks for any advice :)
