• Hi can anybody help please

I created a WorPress site locally and now can not access it. I therefore can not create a mysqldump to send to the hosting company and have decided to rebuild it but not locally, this time live on the internet where it will be hosted.

The problem is that the text content that I put together on the “About Us” and “Services” pages took a lot of time to get just right. Is it possible using Dreamweaver (or other) to access the text to copy?

Hope that you can help. Thank you in advance.
    Steve

  • Why can’t you access your localhost site?

    Hi Fonglh

I did a very silly thing, I installed DesktopSever to create the site locally all well and good. Once I finished I changed the .dev extentions to .co.uk ready for live hosting. I then did another silly thing and deleted the site off my DesktopServer.

Now it appears I need to offer the hosting company a mysqldump of the database???

i have tried so many things to try and re-install the site back into the local server but can’t…I’m at at a loss as to what to do next. So starting again seems my only option which isn’t so bad if I can access the text content I worked hard on to get just right.

    Any advice greatly received.

    All the best

Did you delete the database? Or did you only delete the files?

Trouble is, I’m not entirely sure I know what is meant by the “database”. I deleted the “www.alienminds.dev”. I have all the folders (wp-admin, wp-content etc) and files still. Is there a way of checking re the database?

If you still have all the folders and files, then what do you mean by ‘delete’?

When I run my DesktopSever software I set up a root folder which was http://www.alienminds.co.uk. I deleted that connection which I can’t seem to re-establish to gain access…

    …yes…

It comes with phpmyadmin, which you can use to view the contents of your database.

The page content will be in the wp_posts table.

    Hi Fonglh
Firstly thank you very much for all your help and guidance. This should have worke but it phpMyAdmin doesn’t recognise the original database which means I must have deleted it somehow, yet retained the files??? I think that when you remove a dev site off DesktopSever it deletes the database and tables by the looks of things.

I don’t suppose I can access the text content thru any of the php pages can I. I think I may have royally messed up here.

    All the best and thanks

    Steve

No the text content isn’t in any of the php pages. Sorry but it looks like you’ll have to write it again.

Oh my… Well, thanks very much for your help, much appreciated.

I also am not able to connect to my site. tried “localhost”, 127.0.0.1, and my network ip (192.168.1.3) all to no avail. I am using the BitNami stack and it was working well. I was in the middle of building my first site when, all of a sudden I got the unable to connect …. message. I was trying to re-title some of my pages and page urls and possibly did something to cause the problem. I am trying to access the db tables hoping to be able to salvage some of the work I have done to get to this point. Apparently the path to phpmyadmin is different with the BitNami stack than with an ordinary install. the url 127.0.0.1/phpmyadmin gets the “unable to connect” message also. Does any one what the correct path is to access the db? Any help would be much appreciated.

Sorry I jumped the gun in posting. I found the answer. It was a simple matter of starting the servers using the manager-linux tool in the installation directory.
