$10 for Live Search and Live Archives (17 posts)

    Thats right, I will give $10 to anyone who can get Live Search and Live Archives working on my site ($5 for just one or the other). I have tried multiple times but to no avail. I need very exact instructions on how to install because I've tried Fernando's way to install Live Search and Michael's way to install Live Archives and neither of them have worked for me.

    What I am really looking for is to not have to modify any files, and by that I mean when the directions say "now replace yoursite.com/pathtoplugin/livesearch.php with your site" I don't want to do that. The three things I want are:

    1. Pre-modified files (as stated above)
    2. Exact instructions of where to put files on my FTP
    3. Exact instrustion of how to setup my header.php, searchform.php and so on so everything works

    BTW my site is http://www.workingbath.com/ and I don't mind putting all the files for these plugins in the root directory.

    Need clarification on number 1, so you want us to create the necessary files (livesearch.php and pt.php.) for you to drop to your directory?

    Well, for the live search you need to modify files to make it go to the path of other files on your server, what I'm saying is to modify the files for me for workingbath.com

    Okay, where' s your wp root directory? Is it...
    a) http://workingbath.com
    b) http://workingbath.com/blog
    c) http://workingbath.com/name the directory]
    ?

    Btw, there's some revision on that tutorial

    Wanna take a look at it first?

    not used anything about 1.5 but did you have it working previously? It's pretty easy to install - though I didn't use the Binary Bonsai version but a different one with some slighlt modified instructions

    I know a few people have LiveSearch and LiveArchives working together but I'm sure there is some sort of conflict between them, something to do with LiveSearch changing bodyload instructions.

    Following Michael's instructions I managed to get LiveArchives installed and working. But after trying to follow Fernando's instructions for LiveSearch neither ended up working. I had to remove LiveSearch, empty cache and rebuild the LiveArchives cache to get LiveArchives working again.

    I should point out that people have followed Fernando's instructions and got LiveSearch working (just not me, even on a default Kubrick). Failing somebody here doing it for you, I think your best bet might be to wait for the soon to be released K2 and disect that, as LiveSearch is to be included.

    There is a line in livesearch.js that needs to be changed, otherwise you'll get that error

    liveSearchReq.open("GET", "http://www.yourdomain.com/wproot/livesearch.php?s=" + document.forms.searchform.s.value);

    Replace http://www.yourdomain.com/wproot/ with your own info.

    BTW, I'm referring to the file livesearch.js in revised tutorial

    I got rid of the 3rd error by removing the semi-colon from:
    if(this.value == '';)

    Now it looks like this and I don't get that third error anymore:
    if(this.value == '')

    Thats how I have it setup. I have all my files in the root (http://www.workingbath.com/) folder.

    So this is how my livesearch.js is setup:
    liveSearchReq.open("GET", "http://www.workingbath.com/livesearch.php?s=" + document.forms.searchform.s.value);

    Here are all my files (right-click Save As... then rename the .phpt to just .php:

      liverequest.js

      livesearch.js

      livesearch.php

      pt.php

      This is really pissing me off, it starts working for like 5 seconds and then it starts giving me errors again like:

      Error: [Exception... "'Permission denied to call method XMLHttpRequest.open' when calling method: [nsIDOMEventListener::handleEvent]" nsresult: "0x8057001e (NS_ERROR_XPC_JS_THREW_STRING)" location: "<unknown>" data: no]

      Hi, I just stumbled accross this thread by googling 'livesearch'.. I know its probably a bit late, but I've made a LiveSearch plugin that can be just dropped in your plugin directory, with a stylesheet file that has to go in your theme folder (so you can have a separate style for each theme, if you're using multiple ones).

      The only issue I can think of is that you'd need to replace your searchform.php file, but I can easily guide you around what you'd need to modify in your existing searchform.php if that's a problem.

      Check it out
