I've browsed this forum and google for the past 48 hours to try and figure this out myself so I didn't have to trouble you guys, but alas, I must.

Back story: (unnecessary to read, skip to question 1)
I'm a novice at coding and a friend of a friend offered to help set-up our blog at http://www.rentittoday.com/rental-blog
He changed a bunch of stuff and never gave me a changelog and now he's disappeared, leaving me with an htaccess file full of junk.

    1. First of all, while logged in as admin, I'm unable to view any direct links to the blog posts. The front page works fine, but when viewing a permalink, it gives me a 404 error.
    Root: http://www.rentittoday.com/rental-blog/
    Example Post: http://www.rentittoday.com/rental-blog/2011/07/is-google-plus-a-sexy-twitter-or-clean-facebook/

I think this might be related to my next question:

    2. I'm trying to change the permalink structure from my current settings to /%category%/%postname% and, even though the links work successfully, it does not 301 redirect the old links from google's index.

Direct Link to google index of our blog:
    http://www.google.com/#sclient=psy&hl=en&source=hp&q=site:rentittoday.com%2Frental-blog&pbx=1&oq=site:rentittoday.com%2Frental-blog&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&gs_sm=e&gs_upl=861l9336l0l10454l32l28l0l0l0l0l312l4537l3.21.3.1l28l0&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_cp.&fp=58935e0d63e81eca&biw=1280&bih=709

I have several other canonical issues but for now I will post my htaccess to see if anyone can help me optimize it. I have NO IDEA what most of this code means and I would love to get rid of all of it if possible and just make my canonical issues go away.

I'll put the code in the next post (yes, it's that large)
