I too have an issue where certain users seem to be unable to load my podcast... at first I thought it was because I was using the .m4a extension... so I changed the .m4a to .mp3... and still some users had problems.

However, when I am the one trying to replicate the this problem... I can't repeat it... I can always get it to work (have tried XP, Mac OSX, and even Vista). What I did notice was that in Vista, it loads the entire file before it will play... and opens in itunes... so my first episode was 60 some megabytes, which meant I had to wait for all 60mb to be downloaded before it played.

I use a link to the file in my post (ex: domain.com/podcast/ep1.mp3).

Hope this helps and if you find out more, let me know too.

Podcasting has that audio player built-in, but I can try it by itself to see if the results are different. At this point, I am suspecting server issues, like a bad PHP config/build - mime_content_type() is not defined on my server. =/

have you tried just a simple inline player - like wpaudioplayer?

http://wpaudioplayer.com/

if that produces the same results - perhaps it is an issue with your server's config/ability to serve those media files?

Does anyone have any recommendations here? I have made a fresh install of WP2.7 and installed ONLY Podcasting on it and it still just sits and says "Buffering...". So far, I have read nothing that has solved my problem.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Even alternative MP3 players or podcasting software suggestions would be welcome to see if any of those would work.

Does anyone know anything about problems where the audio players from both podPress AND Podcasting won't play MP3 files? The blog I'm trying to get up and running is here:

I forgot to mention exactly what happens when I try to play the audio files. Basically, using either plugin (podPress or Podcasting), the audio player that each plugin uses gets stuck at "Loading" (podPress) or "Buffering" (Podcasting). I've read about "infinite/endless buffering" problems, but I did not see a solution. Maybe I missed it because I was tired when I looked, but any help here would be appreciated.

Testing on Firefox 3.0.4 and 3.0.5 on Windows XP Pro SP2, IE7 on Windows Vista Home SP1, and FF 3.0.5 on Windows Vista Home SP1. I don't know the flash player versions of those respective machines, but it can easily be assumed that they are version 9 or above.

Is there a podcasting plugin that includes file upload as part of its functionality? Neither podPress nor Podcasting do this, which is sort of moot at the moment, considering I can also get neither of them to actually PLAY uploaded files. I am using self-hosted WordPress 2.7 and I have applied the Disable Revisions and Autosave plugin.

Help?
