Just a followup. I have this working now. I had a Modsecurity rule that was blocking the access to the gpx file. It didn't like the USER-AGENT (or lack of) that was coming from the request. It was also interfering with my Post via email script.

I'm having a similar issue. I'm trying to display bike ride maps on my site. I have both the kml and gpx files from the ride, but really want to display the gpx, speed and altitude data. After much fiddling, I have the kml file displaying the route, but cannot get the gpx file to parse. I just get the highest level world map. I went as far as searching here, and downloading a gpx from someones working site to rule out the tool that created mine. I have disabled all other plugins with no success. Any other ideas?

Running WP 2.8.x
PHP 5.2.x

XML GM v. 1.12.1
I have an API key, and entered it into the settings panel in WP 2.8.
When I view a post with a shortcode and url to Picasa/GE, i get a error:

The Google Maps API server rejected your request. This could be because the API key used on this site was registered for a different web site. You can generate a new key for this web site at http://code.google.com/apis/maps/

When i return to the settings panel the API field contains "(none)"
I have successfully used the API code with another plugin before.
Any suggestions? Thanks

Hello again,

Thanks for the info alexrabe and dschuesae but I already have XML Google Maps working fine with plain map posts. The issue seems to be that NextGEN is not reading the EXIF data so cannot pass it to XML Google Maps. I know that the EXIF data is still present in the images as I have downloaded them from the gallery via FTP and they still contain the correct co-ordinates. My host simply said to ensure that the plugin was enabled but this really isn't the issue as I can produce galleries without maps and maps without photos without issue.

Is there something else I can check or configure (in the database, for example) to force the import of EXIF data?

Thank you once again for your help,

Many thanks,

Hi there,
Am a newbie to wordpress let alone xml google maps.
I run the site http://www.soarhawkesbay.co.nz and have installed xml google maps. I would like to be able to allow members (paraglider pilots ) to be able to add their latest flights to the site with Google Maps and also a speed & altitude graph too maybe ?
They will probably just use a GPX file to create the track. Can smeone please help here? I need some REAL simple instructions. This also needs to be simple so that my users can do the same. Is this possible?

Thanks in advance

Heard the first time of this issue - so please check your PHP and Wordpress installation first...

If this won't work, try to download the latest development version of the plugin at: http://downloads.wordpress.org/plugin/xml-google-maps.zip and have a retry!

Otherwise: you have absolutely no content in your gpx and kml file.

This is not really a plugin behaviour. Check your wordpress and php installation...

Hi Patrick

Thanks for the quick reply..

I have took off all known translators on my site but the problem still remains. Not to sure what to do now.

I have two maps on there now just to show that am using different code but getting the same result.

Could it be a problem in my settings for this plugin?

I think you're using qTranslate or another translation plugin. This plugin will even translate the GPX file !?!? Now you're wondering why my plugin shows nothing :-) (open the link to the gpx file on your webpage and have a look at source...)

The GPX mode is parse 1 alright, I changed it to 2 just to check and to clear the cache but it obviously didn't work so I changed it back.

Any other help would be appreciated otherwise I think i'll revert to the old version and see if I can make that work again.

Many thanks

Hi Alex,

After some testing, I thought I'd see if this is a known issue / idiot end user issue that someone might be able to help with. I have a non-profit website, the focus of which involves a trip to Slovenia. I hope to upload photos from my iPhone en route and have them placed on a nice map (XML Google Maps). I am unable to get NEXTGEN Gallery to read the GPS location from my JPGs. I have tried uploading from various sources and can confirm that all have the appropriate EXIF entries and that the server support EXIF:

PHP Exif support : Yes ( V1.4 )
PHP IPTC support : Yes
PHP XML support : Yes

I've tried importing meta after uploading. The camera make, f-stop and date are read no problem but there's no sign of the GPS info. I've reached a bit of an impasse and I'm not sure how to proceed from here.

Our trip starts in just a couple of weeks so I really need to get it fixed before then. Any advice would be very much appreciated.

Many thanks,

Hey dschuesae, thanks for the quick response.

I checked the webpanel of my host (dreamhost) and found that PHP5 was activated. Just to make sure I emailed them and they created a phpinfo file for me which confirms that I have PHP5.2.9 installed and running (http://www.itsalongwaytotipperary.net/info.php)

Can you think of any other reason why the plugin may not be displaying properly? I've updated it to 1.12.1 and while it activated fine the gpx files don't display properly, only showing the whole globe instead.

Many thanks,
You're using the plugin on a PHP4 Installation! I fixed this - Even upgrade to PHP5. PHP4 isn't supported anymore by the PHP community!

Genau.
