Hi there,

There is a problem with wp version 2.8.0 to 2.8.6, after saving widget settings wp widget cache form is gone... while settings saved just fine, you'll need to reload the page to be able to configure it once again

http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-widget-cache/

I am running both DB Cache Reloaded and wp-supercache on the blog at the same time and I think with both my initial load times are a tad faster but cached pages are much faster.

Some additional findings to report:

Running DB Cache Reloaded by itself yielded faster page load times than having both plugins enabled at the same time. Also, DB Cache Reloaded yielded faster page load times than WP Super Cache. I must admit that my pages are DB heavy with close an average of 100 sql queries (far too many I know).

I have also turned on compression via my php.ini which should add to the improved response.

For now I'm going to stick with DB Cache Reloaded and compression enabled.

FYI...

I have been testing both WP Super Cache (with caching turned on) and DB Cache Reloaded. So far the results are looking positive and do not have any issues to report.

This is what I am running:

Wordpress: 2.8.5
DB Cache Reloaded: 1.4.1
WP Super Cache: 0.9.7

One point of interest is that the number of cached queries is much higher when WP Super Cache is disabled (eg: admin user). I'm sure there's a technical explanation for this.

If anyone out there has any further feedback on running this combination of caching plugins - I'd be very interested to hear what you have to say.

Just a quick note:
Right now I am testing db-cache-reloaded alone and I have to say it works pretty great :) WP-S-C disabled.
I guess either using them both or merging them is not a good idea.
But DB-Cache-Reloaded is definitely a great plugin. You should try it out!

It may be possible... but is it advisable? My main objective is to minimize CPU load on a very busy site. What I can't figure out is whether I should have just one or the other (which one lowers CPU load the most?), or both?

I installed APC on a server running Gentoo, but it didn't seem to work. The apc.php shows only 1 page in the cache. Also when I try to run this command: "make test" it shows 3 failed tests instead of passed :/ Even tho everything seems to be installed correctly. I didn't have any installation errors. No idea what's wrong...

If db-cache-reloaded use the file advanced-cache.php? If it does then you'll have to merge the code from both projects. It probably isn't worth doing.

WP Super Cache will save your CPU cycles too as whole pages are cached.

You could use any object cache to cache queries and WordPress objects. I wrote about one of them here.

I've just tested db-cache-reloaded after switching from wp-super-cache and it seems to me that... Wp-Super-Cache is still faster with loading the whole pages, but I assume that DB-Cache-Reloaded reduces CPU load on the server, so my question is in the topic above.

Also I received few HTTP 500 Internal errors in admin panel and the site itself.

WP-Super-Cache is blazing fast.
WP-Cache is also pretty fast for logged in users.
DB-Cache-Reloaded's speed is rather slow, but It cached 90% of queries on every page. I guess it reduces the CPU load. Hm?

I'm really liking this plugin, as it's rather powerful at letting me individually set the caching for each individual widget.

However, my concern is about using this plugin with an overall caching plugin, such as Hyper Cache.

Hyper Cache, for instance, caches the entire page. A problem arises when widgets are individually set to expire at an earlier time than the overall cache, or if the widget is set not to cache at all, in case it is expected to work dynamically (change with each page load). The overall caching defeats the purpose of WP Widget Cache.

Is there a caching plugin that will only cache post/page content without touching the sidebars/widgets?

http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-widget-cache/

Hi,
I can give some tips to make it work on MU, but I never test that.

Basically it just add 'host' as a param a part of the cache and option key.

on line 100 of widget-cache.php

function wgc_get_option($key)
{
....
//$ops=get_option($key); change this line to
$ops=get_option($_SERVER['HTTP_HOST'].'_'.$key);
....
}

on line 474 of widget-cache.php

function get_widget_cache_key($id)
{
//$wckey="wgcache_".$id; change this line to
$wckey="wgcache_".$_SERVER['HTTP_HOST'].'_'.$id;

I've tried using this plugin with WP 2.8 beta 2, and it doesn't work (probably due to the new widget system). What's the status of the development on making this plugin compatible?

Many of my widgets are called directly from a template tag in the sidebars. Is there any way I can cache these widgets using widget cache, as they don't appear in the widgets admin side.

Thanks.

The author would do well, instead of fixing this 'feature', _make_ it a feature and write another version that is MU aware. That, or put in a switch to turn on site-wide for a particular widget in a particular location; leaving all others to cache/refresh at their own rates individually.

In order for this to work you'd only set the cache time equally for the one widget in all blogs and leave the time field empty (turns off caching) in all others that you don't want to appear in all blogs with the same content. So, you'd set the time to something relatively short and any updates would refresh at the specified time, updating them all. Pretty cool, though not what was intended at first, I'd wager.

While it can be a feature, the individual settings for widgets carry across blog sites if they are in the same numbered sidebar. Setting them differently from another between users isn't possible if they are in the same position.

It would also be a Big help if there were a global timeout on the config page, so that all would default to it unless individually changed.

Other than that, it seems to be working great.
