Hi, all.

Sorry if I'm "hijacking" this thread (it's related to this topic so I hope it's not a hijack)...

If you have this Chat plugin password protected are you still subject to or prone to spammers?

A strictly set Bad Behavior usually does the trick.

However, if for whatever reason it doesn't work for you, you could try a different route: the WP http:BL plugin, which uses the same http:BL API key and very fast DNS type queries, but doesn't have all the additional protective script filters that Bad Behavior affords.

Big difference between the two is that the http:BL plugin method just relies on blocking the known bad guys, whereas BB is also and especially able to stop 'em based on their displayed behavior - whether they've been spotted elsewhere before, or not.

Nerdy humor aside: in the http:BL plugin, the following line never fails to make me laugh out loud:

if ($blocked) die(); // My favourite line.

Can't say I disagree.

Thanks for the extras here.

Akismet didn't make any difference actually, but I've signed up to honeypot, added the plugin and also made BB stricter so I'll see how that goes.

Using Akismet together with Bad Behavior is a very good idea; they're not only not biting each other, what's more: the key author behind BB has a lot of insight in Akismet development, so they play nicely too. So, you did well.

Other tip: make sure you have a valid HTTP:BL key to enter in BB (get one over at Project Honeypot) and return the love a bit to the community by using the WP HoneyPot plugin which helps tracking and flagging bad bots also for other users.

I've been using the Wordspew plugin 1.16 (http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wordspew/) for over a year now with no spam worries as I also used Bad Behaviour.

The past 2 weeks though my wordspew shoutbox has been spammed to oblivion. Neither of these files have been updated or changed by me or their respectives owners, so maybe my site has just got onto a spammers list or they've upped their game.

Any idea how I can stop spammers on wordspew?

It was a theme issue...sort of
the last release of wordspew before Pierre took it over does not work.
The most recent version (3.72) appears as a widget whereas with the last version before Pieree (1.6 I think) required going into the code. if you are having the same problem just get the latest version. It worked for me.

Hi all,
I'm a noob and pretty ignorant. I just wanted to get that out of the way. My problem however, is this, I have installed Pierre's wordspew plugin (3.72) on my enchant v3 theme and it will not show up in firefox. It shows in IE and Opera and I'm not sure about Safari but all that I see in Firefox is the text input box and the name input box. If I type a message in firefox it will show up in IE but nothing in firefox. This makes me think it's more of a theme issue than a plugin issue, but like I said I hjave no idea.
I don't have the stats plugin installed that was apparently an issue in my research. Other plugins I have installed are:
Akismet
1pixelout audio player
cforms II
flicker Rss
redirectify
none of these are giving me any issues.
My site is www.ihabu.com and if someone can help me with this that would be swell

Hi guys..
First of all, I must say sorry for my bad english.

I just downloaded Wordspew for wordpress, and now I just had one great idea.
This is what I want to do:

I don´t want to set up wordspew in my side-panels, footer or my header.
In my blog, I want to create a link on the left side that says something like "chat.", and when people click that link, they will get to a page alone with wordspew in the middle instead of the new posts in the blog.

Is it possible to do this?

As far as I understand this is a very easy operation, but I am new to Wordpress, and I really don´t know what files I should edit or anything...

Could you people please help me?

Hi! I have a problem. This plugin works fine when I leave a message in english, but my site has cp1251 encoding, so when I use cyrillic characters, they are written in mysql db in a wrong way (other wp data is written correctly). I tried to change UTF-8 to windows-1251 (or cp1251) in wordspew.php but it didn’t change anything. And I didn't find any other encoding tags in code. Is it possible to force this script to write data in cp1251 encoding? And how I can do it?

Thanks a lot!

I am using wordspew extended 1.18 on my blog, and I keep getting spam in it, is there a way to prevent that? I'm using WP 2.02, Akismet 1.14, and bad behavior 1.2.4

I tried to contact the author of WS extended, but his site is in spanish or french or something and I can't find his email address there

thanks

Hi All, i suggest that you have a try on the latest version of the shoutbox on my blog http://pierre.sudarovich.free.fr because i add some stuff to fight spammers and i think that it will be really harder for them to bypass all the filters. Amicably,

OK today I noticed that my shoutbox was being loaded with spam, I tried every fix listed but the spam just kept on coming. So I deactivated the plugin and deleted the call from the page. I later came back just to see if he was still sending spam to the system so I reactivated the plugin and low and behold the plugin was still being loaded with spam.

Now I have a couple of questions, which file is it in wordspew that he is able to write too? And can I use the free traffic hits to drive my rankings up by allowing the spam bot to still access the file? since it's not being displayed anywhere on the site it's only loading up the DB with bogus spam post. Now here is where the light bulb came on today, Is there a way I could create a cron job to empty that file every night say at midnight and turn the spammers bandwidth usage to my advantage?
Regards
Mark

is it possible to configure all the info (exact time, IP, etc) off shoutmix? Because it's so clogged it's hard to read.
