Okay I have just tried to install phpbb3 and after filling all db info and clicking proceed same thing happens. I have no idea why. It says that folders and files are writable, connection with sql is ok, php works fine... It just doesn't crate any table in database, so this could be a problem I think. Now... how to solve it?

Will any other websites/ webpages/ cms's work on your Xampp installation?

Setting up Xampp on a Windows box can sometimes need a bit nudging to get going.

A.F.A.I.K. WordPress should run fine on Xampp on Windows XP and Vista. I don't know about Windows 7 though. Maybe somebody else can help you there.

squirrel-lt I think that you are rigth, maybe is a permissions problem.
You can try to investigate the user Apache service is using, then give writing permissions to that user in your wp directory, but I'm not sure
I'm not using windows 7

After I click SUBMIT it returns in error in Opera, but because error is in Lithuanian language I can only copy what Mr. Explorer said:
Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage
That's it! Isn't really helping, is it?

I noticed that it didn't create wp-config.php file from sample, so perhaps this has something to do with writing permissions? I am using Windows 7 so who knows.

Typically, a blank screen after an install may mean you didn't get a complete and intact set of WordPress files uploaded to your host. I'd consider downloading a fresh copy of WordPress from the Download tab at the top of this page, then use something like 7-Zip to extract the files. Then reupload the files to your host. Review Uploading WordPress to a remote host and make sure you are using ASCII transfer mode in your FTP client.

If you have an
.htaccess file,
that too could be causing the problem--rename that if necessary.

This is the fourth day I'm trying to get wordpress work on windows. When I upload to Linux server everything works just fine, but I want to make a theme for blog, so the best way to do it is to have wordpress running on PC. The problem is, that install.php index.php any file loads loads and then... nothing... blank page. I've tried everything, I read all topics regarding this problem, as well as other websites via google, but problem still exists. Latest Apache, latest MySql, latest PHP, latest wordpress, everything is configured just fine. I am using Windows 7 if that has anything to do with this problem.

I'm using the wp-404-handler.php method to get pretty permalinks for my site.

I recently changed the permalink structure from /%post_id%/%postname%/ to /%year%/%monthnum%/%postname%/

The problem is that a lot of links on external sites use the old structure which returns a 404 page. Changing the permalink structure on a local testing server using WAMP didn't do any damage at all.

http://www.nativenoise.co.za/820/the-winter-olympics-bebop-rocksteady/
would intelligently redirect to
http://www.nativenoise.co.za/2009/08/the-winter-olympics-bebop-rocksteady/

Is there any way to do that using the wp-404-handler.php method on a windows server?

This is the code in my wp-404-handler.php file:

<?php
$_SERVER['REQUEST_URI'] = substr($_SERVER['QUERY_STRING'], strpos($_SERVER['QUERY_STRING'], ':80')+3);
$_SERVER['PATH_INFO'] = $_SERVER['REQUEST_URI'];
include('index.php');

You will require one web server (I believe you are already running IIS) and then you will need to configure your PHP with IIS. If everything go right then you should not face any problem. Also note that if you are using IIS then you will not be able to use permalink. It requires mod_rewrite (Apache module).

If you do not want to use IIS then you can install XAMPP. It will install and configure Apache, PHP and MySQL for you.

Hello WP Community,

 I have been appointed by my CEO to re-design our Intranet, which is abysmal, really bad, and none of the employees actually use it. I've created many WordPress sites in my day and showed my CEO that Wordpress would be a great way to go and it will make it easier for the people who have to manage it. She really liked the fact that she could have a blog and people could comment on articles that would be posted daily.

 The problem lies in the fact we don't have a linux server and we only have a Windows 2000 server. So my question to you are these:

1. What do I need to install on the windows 2000 server to make it work? Is it just PHP and MySQL?

2. If anyone has done it what problems have you faced?

3. Is there a Installing WP on Windows tutorial somewhere? All the ones I've seen are very old.

Thanks.

I really hope we can do this because like I said, our Intranet site stinks.

Hi everyone. Recently I decided to start a blog and decided to use Wordpress for the first time. I got everything uploaded, installed, and seemingly running fine. I am a Mac user, so I used Safari to view my blog, http://www.gogoglam.net. I've also used Safari on my iPod and Verizon Wireless mobile web to view it. I thought everything was great until I directed my friend to the site. She, being a Windows Internet Explorer user, only sees a white screen. I checked it out on my parents' PC and I'm having the same problem. Why would this be? And what can I do to fix it? Thanks so much!

Same problem.
might it be because the directory needs permission too? I'll be damned if I'm giving is full permission over the root.

yeah, I've verified the existence of every folder that each plugin uses (3 or 4 different folders in all) and double checked the permissions were all set at 777. Those folders contain all of the stuff I uploaded to them when it was running on the other server and the galleries all work. I even made a few new folders but still no uploading.

Does the upload folder actually exists? It all sounds like a permission problem.
