Hey, there's a bug in your code that allows someone to vote down a post even if the option isn't available on the web site. For example, the normal vote code looks like:

vote(obj, votelinkobj, aftervote, postID ,userID, baseURL)

and the sink code:

sink(obj, votelinkobj, aftervote, postID ,userID, baseURL)

So now, let's assume for a moment that I'm a l33t hax0r who wants to sabotage someone's web site... I could inject some JS code (using Firebug's console) to call some JS functions that I normally can't call on the web site, which results in something like:

sink(null, null, null, postID, 0, baseURL)

which would call the sink() function and decrement the vote count by one. Ok, cool, so I have sabotaged the vote count by -1 W00t! But I'm not satisfied... so now what to do...

for(var i = 0; i < 100; i++) { sink(null, null, null, postID, 0, baseURL) }

Sweet... I've just decremented the vote count by -100.

You should probably fix this before a real l33t hax0r finds this and it turns into a big problem.

I'm trying to remove the REMOTE ADDRESS check in the voting functions.

Let me backtrack, I'm running a vote on my site and rather than fix 10 people and run a Poll daddy vote, I'm allowing users to vote up or down whether they agree. It's open to the outside world, but it's mainly for the 150 people at my company. Problem is because we're behind a router at work, I've voted and now no one else can.

How can I remove the IP check so I can have multiple votes per IP address.

I know it's open to abuse, but I'd rather someone tried to fix the vote, then more people would vote up their own favourite post.

Hi!

I'm trying to use the vote-it-up plugin. I'm using the bar display option. What I'm trying to do is to display the voting options such a "Yes" and "No", for example. It does this quite well, but when those options are displayed on the page, they are side by side (i.e. YesNo).
Could someone point me in the right direction to be able to move those two words apart?

it was just a little copy&paste mistake (the wrong variables were given to GuestVoted() ). take a look in this GuestVote-function and you will see, that it's not correct using $post_ID and $user_ID for function GuestVoted(). It was also not escaped, so there was perhabs a little sercurity hole... ;)

Hi - I really like this plugin and have started using it on my site. Thanks very much for sharing it.

I have some feedback around some features I'd really like to see included.

1. On the post/page view, I am using the % view so the VoteItUp box displays the number of people who have voted positively on that post/page. However it does not show the total number of votes and I think that would be extremely useful to ascertain the scale of what is being voted on. For example, "67% of voters [agree] based on X votes" where [agree] is configurable and X is the total number of votes.

2. On the "Most Voted Posts" Widget, the voting count seems to be a variance from 0 (ranked by number of votes). It's not clear which way is for and which way is against on a particular vote. Would it be possible to mimic the functionality I mention in my first point per post included in this widget (e.g. "67% of voters [agree] based on X votes").

3. When displaying the voting buttons, the "Name of Positive Votes" and the "Name of Negative Votes" (e.g. "Yes/No") are very close together. Would it be possible to put these a little further apart? I tried using spaces in the configuration but it seems to strip out the spaces. I'm a little concerned people may vote the wrong way by mistake.

4. Finally, it would be a really good feature if you could display posts where the current % vote is between a certain range (e.g. From 40% - 60%). The idea here is that certain posts may be dividing people and therefore are typically quite interesting. As such I'd like to be able to highlight them in a widget where you can set the range.

Hopefully some of these suggestions could be incorporated in future versions.

Thank you very much again - this is a really excellent plugin.

Elliot.

I found Vote It Up to be unsatisfactory for a lot of reasons, one of which was the way it tallied votes. The icons are too small to be seen easily, and it leaves out a lot of information you'd like to know.

I found one I liked a lot better but I cannot find a download or contact info for the developer.

Hi there

Depending on the vote it up skin you are using, open skin.php file in your skin folder. Mine is percent skin

Replace

<div class="votelistind"><div class="votemicro">'.$a[1][$i][0].'</div><span class="votemicrotext"><a href="'.$postdat->guid.'" title="'.$postdat->post_title.'">'.$postdat->post_title.'</a></span></div>

with

<li><a href="'.$postdat->guid.'" title="'.$postdat->post_title.'">'.$postdat->post_title.'</a></li>

I deleted all span and div blocks then add a li tag there. You can change votewidget_skin class to ul,ol tag or wrap all list items with one of those tags in your sidebar template. It would be better to use css for vote widget block and don't modify source code too much for easy upgrade and maintenance.

I'm trying to do the same thing - installed WP Smart Sort, but it doesn't offer voting as an available custom sort field...

edit: Never mind, it was some glitch with the "modern ticker" skin -- I changed it and it worked fine.

OK, I solved my problem a different way: I went into the database and tweaked the votes info (for id=2) so that it matched the others.

I used bradt's fix, but am still getting one defective url from the sidebar menu.

"About" is still in that sidebar list.
And gives the user this broken link:
h ttp://localhost/?page_id=2

the real link should be:
h ttp://mysitedeleted.com/wordpress/?page_id=2

A word of warning: if you select the option to let guests vote, there is an exploit that allows users to vote multiple times. If you click "vote" once, no problem. But if you click "vote" rapidly and repeatedly, it will count every click until it changes to a "voted" state - thus allowing one user to vote multiple times.

As it stands, you should only use this plugin with required registration.

A small but critical bug in an otherwise awesome plugin!
