@blondishnet Thanks for your input on this - appreciated. I'm thankful I didn't have to install a plugin to fix core functionality though :]

You should be able to edit. I might be bold, but you might want to download Role Manager and try to see if that works for your editor.

http://www.im-web-gefunden.de/wordpress-plugins/role-manager/

This might help your WordPress allow your editor (if you want them to be able to edit posts) and any other abilitiess (roles) you want them to have access to.

This table outlines user roles (http://codex.wordpress.org/Roles_and_Capabilities#Capability_vs._Role_Table). It indicates that Editors are indeed able to moderate comments (moderate_comments).

I'm assuming this means: Approve/Spam/Delete/Edit etc?

I have an Editor user set up on my install, but they can't do any of the above. I wonder whether someone else with a 2.8.5 install could confirm this is the case?

Thanks,

Sorry wadekwon, I think this is a fairly simple setup but I haven't worked with multiple installs like this. I would assume if you configured it as http://wadekwon.com/sundayread it would work fine as that is how many people seem to install it for domain.com/blog. But maybe you should try this setup in options > general like this site says to

Going there redirects me to a login screen, even though I'm already logged in.

It's quite possible it's a directory problem. I tried to do what it said here:

I would imagine the problem is what directory your new site is in and how it is configured. I doubt you messed anything up with the php or css.

I would think that upon logging in it should redirect me to sundayread.org/wp-admin and not /sundayread/wp-admin.

I did a new WP install on my server today for a second site. My server is wadekwon.com, and I added a new folder for this site at wadekwon.com/html/sundayread.

I also added the P2 theme.

But if you go to http://sundayread.org, you'll see:

It redirects correctly to wadekwon.com/sundayread.

The first post shows up.

I have it set to require that you be a logged-in WP user. (Even when I turned it off, the post box didn't show up on the front page.)

However, it does not show the posting box, even after logging in.

You can try creating your own account, or using this temporary account (user: testcase / password: testcase).

I turned off all plugins, but no change.

Any ideas? My only guess is that in changing the CSS or PHP files, I crippled the comment/posting feature. Who knows?

Your feedback is appreciated.

Hi,

The plugin displays the picture of a user with no posts in the widget just fine but the author page for that user does not display when it is clicked through to. I am using the Atahualpa 3.4 theme.

The author page/profile page for authors/users who have not posted will not show up. Most of the users on the site I am running will not be posting but they need their profiles showcased.

The site is here: http://www.editorswa.com
Example of a page for an author with posts: http://www.editorswa.com/?author=1

Well, if you want to do it, you can do it this way:

1) create your link to the other site
2) insert your cursor (you must be in html mode) into the link after the closing quote of the href=""
3) hit the spacebar, then type:
onclick="target='_blank'"

That will not cause a validation warning you normally would get if using the target attribute in strict xhtml doctypes. At worst, the link will simply open in the same page (should the user not have javascript enabled, which is not typically the case)

Not always a great idea, but certainly asked for by many. I don't think it's "spammy" and you could put in a title attribute to tell the user that the link will open in a new browser window or even put that in parentheses after the link.

HTH

Why do you want to do that? It always looks spammy and will annoy people. Keep them on your site by offering good content and signpost your call to action to them clearly rather than putting speedbumps in their way.

I want to add a popup when someone want to leave the website for another one. Have you heard about a plugin that can do that? Any other solution is welcome too!

I've tried playing with these and can't get them to do what I want

In essence, what I'm trying to do is with the top of the sidebar, I want (plain language coding) -

if (is_home()) OR if not a user
~ do this ~
then
~ this ~ (if user or not)

I can get it to work with the is_home command() on it's own, and I can get it to work with the !is_user_logged_in() on its own, but when I try to run the || (or) php in the middle of them I get a T_syntax (OR) php error and the sidebar fails to load.

It's starting to drive me nuts because I want the condition to simply be -
If it's the home page or it's not a logged-in user (on any page or post), then show the sign up form

Why is this so difficult?

Can anyone help this grump old geezer?
