Hiya,

Have you all checked out the "SmartYouTube" plugin by Vladimir Prelovac.
I haven't installed it in 2.8.6, but I am running it on a blog of this same version.
Seems to be workin' good.
It saves a lot of time, as you just append the protocol prefix of a link, as in httpv: the (v) is for video.
Mr. Prelovac makes great tools for WP.

Maybe this is a fix too?

Seems like a lot of video errors/troubles on 2.8.6.

Hope this helps.

Dick

Didn't solve my problem with WordPress core files, had to use a plugin http://www.prelovac.com/vladimir/wordpress-plugins/smart-youtube

Bit a of a pain expecting my commenters to add a V to the http part of the video URL, but at least it works now. Had to add instructions on my site http://www.general-election-2010.co.uk/add-youtube-video-comments which is a bit irritating!

WordPress development team should add allowing both non admin users and commenters the option to post embeded content. Give it as an option for admins to decide who can and can not add embeded content into posts and comments.

I have a similar issue with Youtube videos submitted as comments.

I can submit a comment as admin and the embed code holds, but if a 'guest' user (not registered) posts a comment with embeded video, the code is deleted.

Are unregistered users meant to be able to post embeded videos? I'd like them to be able to without having to go to a lot of effort (so post the embeded code and it works).

I tried disabling the XHTML setting mentioned above, but apparently has no effect on comments.

Problem: Since upgrading my site to WordPress 2.8.6 I had had problems embedding YouTube videos into a post via HTML editor. Blank space would show up where the videos should have been. I attempted the same thing on another 2.8.6 installation and saw the same issue, but I noticed that it was only occurring in the posts—I could still embed a video into a sidebar widget.

Solution: I was able to solve the problem by going to
Settings » Writing
, and unchecking the box that says
WordPress should correct invalidly nested XHTML automatically
. Until a new version comes out that fixes this issue I'll have to leave this unchecked.

smart youtube is working fine for me, except that the httpv code shows up in the meta description, which is automatically being generated by all-in-one SEO plugin pulling content from the post. I'm using a different plugin for vimle and this isn't the case, it's called like [vimeo xxxxxxx] and this doesn't show in the description.

Anyone know of a way to remove the smart youtube call from this description?

Did you miss the sticky in all CAPS at the top of this category? This is the installation category, plugins should go in the Plugins category. Also, a recommendation does very little good if you don't say why you recommend it or what the plugin is for.

If you want the [youtube=*youtube-address*] tags to work with Smart YouTube, I'm writting some lines of code to insert to the Smart YouTube plugin.

On smartyoutube.php, search for the following line:

    return $the_content;

Now, add the following BEFORE it:

// to work with migrated blogs from Wordpress.com replacing [youtube=youtubeadresss]
if(strpos($the_content, "http")!==FALSE ) {
preg_match_all("/\[youtube\=http:\/\/([a-zA-Z0-9\-\_]+\.|)youtube\.com\/watch(\?v\=|\/v\/)([a-zA-Z0-9\-\_]{11})([^<\s]*)\]/", $the_content, $matches, PREG_SET_ORDER);
foreach($matches as $match) {
$the_content = preg_replace("/\[youtube\=http:\/\/([a-zA-Z0-9\-\_]+\.|)youtube\.com\/watch(\?v\=|\/v\/)([a-zA-Z0-9\-\_]{11})([^\s<]*)\]/", yte_tag($match[3], '', $match[4], $side), $the_content, 1);
}
}

And voilá!

Notice this is a quick mod, and since I'm not a pro PHP coder, I'm not completely shure if this will affect other things... but I guess not.
Also: All [youtube=] tags will be treated as standard non-HD videos.

Another sollution is using something like the Search and Replace plugin (http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/search-and-replace/) to replace all tags like:
"[youtube=http://" for "httpv://" and "]" for ""

The only problem is that you'll end up with no "]" on your posts, even those has nothing to do with the YouTube tags.

I hope everyone understands what I'm saying...

I'd like to be able to set the alignment on the embedded YouTube so the text wraps around it. I can do it manually like this...
<div style="float:left;margin-right: 10px;">httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JfWb-4OQsWs</div>

Is there way to do this within a configuration setting?

Just looked at the admin area of Smart YouTube. You can turn off related videos on that page.
