OK, thanks for your patience and testing the modified skypeCheck.js :)

The fact that your online status appears wrong is out of my hands. The plugin polls the Skype server (closest mirror, I suppose) which should reflect your online status. If it does not, you need to make sure the setting 'Allow my status to be show on the web' is checked in your Skype client Privacy settings. If it is, it's usually just a delay of a few minutes but toggling your status between Away, Offline (hidden), Skype Me and Available a few times should trigger the server into the correct status.

You can check if the Skype server is showing your status correctly by visiting http://mystatus.skype.com/radionhcwx

That's strange. I do not get this error on my own WP installs running the development version of the plugin... Did you simply overwrite the plugin files or did you deactivate the plugin first and reactivated it after the upgrade? Safest would be to deactivate, then uninstall, then install the dev version via 'Upload' of the zip file (not via FTP but via the WP back-end)

As an alternative, you could downgrade again to the latest stable version but then replace the file skypeCheck.js with the one included in the development version.

In any case, the error stems from the original code provided by Skype. So reinstalling the plugin will not change anything.

Searching on the internet for this error, I find only very few reports and none provide an answer.

Apart from the error, does the button work? I mean, by clicking it does either Skype or the 'download Skype' dialog open?

If not, I can try some changes to the Skype script but since I cannot reproduce the issue, I'll have ot ask you to test them. Let me know if you're up for it :)

...moving away from querying the Skype server on page load and replacing it with an ajax call... - is an excellent idea, because time delay on page load sometimes is very long... I just can't use your plugin for that reason.

And, if it helps your, there is a plugin on Joomla - Skype AJAX Status.

OK so I now see direct.sponsor showing Skype status: Online twice and echo123 as offline.

The Echo123 test service will always show offline on the web even though it appears online to you when you add the service to your contacts. See http://mystatus.skype.com/echo123.txt ... They clearly did not check the option 'Allow my status to be shown on the web' under their Skype clients Privacy settings ;)

Anyway, direct.sponsor seems to work fine and I do not see much of a delay in page load. The difference between the user pages and some of the normal pages seems to be about 300-400ms on average. At least as far as I could see just now.

The status of Unknown might appear when there is an error (usually a timeout) when trying to query the Skype server. You can change that text on the Skype Online Status settings page under Advanced Options > Custom status texts > Error (none) ... Sadly, I cannot force the Skype server to respond. Increasing the timeout might help but it will also increase page load :(

I have considered moving away from querying the Skype server on page load and replacing it with an ajax call but implementing that will take some time. Which I cannot spare at the moment, I'm afraid...

Hi,

I'm not seeing any active skype buttons on your site so I cannot say anything specific here.

What I can say is that sometimes the Skype servers respond very slow which will impact page load on your site even though there is only a small timeout set for these queries. The only thing to prevent this delay completely is to disable the checking of online status completely by switching the Skype Online Status option Status texts for the {status} tag to Disabled. In this case, the status check will not take place but if you chose a theme that uses a dynamic status image taken from the Skype server, that image will still reflect your online status.

And in the case of the user ID dominor.novus it could be that the dot in the name is causing an issue. It has been reported before... I'd have to take a closer look to see what is going on.

For that, you will need to edit one of the templates to strip out any button action. Here is an example:

First select the button theme
'My status + Name' button (small icon)
and save your settings. Then select
Custom...
and scroll down to the Advanced section where you see a text area with the template content in it. In this example (with echo123 still sett as Skype ID) it will look like this:

<!-- 'My status + Name' button (small icon) - http://www.skype.com/go/skypebuttons --><a href="skype:{skypeid}?{function}" title="{functiontxt}{sep1}{username}{sep2}{statustxt}{status}"><img src="http://mystatus.skype.com/smallicon/{skypeid}" style="border: none;" width="16" height="16" alt="{functiontxt}{sep1}{username}{sep2}{statustxt}{status}" /></a><span class="skype_button username"> {username}</span>

You can now strip out any function related bits like
<a href="skype:{skypeid}?{function}" title="{functiontxt}{sep1}{username}{sep2}{statustxt}{status}">
,
</a>
and
{functiontxt}
... For example, if you make it look like the following, the image will just show your status without actually doing anything when clicked.

<img src="http://mystatus.skype.com/smallicon/{skypeid}" style="border: none;" width="16" height="16" alt="{username}{sep2}{statustxt}{status}" /><span class="skype_button username"> {username}</span>

Have you tried the theme
'My Status' plain text link
already?

If that's not exactly what you are looking for, your next step is to first save your options with that theme selected and then revisit the qdmin page and select
Custom...
theme. After saving once again, you can start editing the template in the large text field under Advanced > Custom Template so it fits closer to your needs.

It took quite some time figuring out how to return the status as text rather than the default button.

The links:
http://mystatus.skype.com/yourusername.txt
http://mystatus.skype.com/yourusername.xml

This doesn't seem achievable using the plugin. I manually added the following to my page template:

//http://webcodingeasy.com/PHP-APIs/Get-skype-status
$someskypeid="john.doe";
$url = "http://mystatus.skype.com/".$someskypeid.".xml";
//getting contents
$curl = curl_init();
curl_setopt($curl, CURLOPT_URL, $url);
curl_setopt($curl, CURLOPT_RETURNTRANSFER, 1);
$data = curl_exec($curl);
curl_close($curl);

$pattern = '/xml:lang="en">(.*)</';
preg_match($pattern,$data, $match);

//return $match[1];
echo $match[1];

Can we not just have this as a default template for the plugin?

I would have thought that the outputting of text rather than images was a common request.

Apologies in advance if the plugin already facilitates this and I've simply overlooked it.
