I tried to put lists in my front page template. When I accidentally used a placeholder in the template that wasn't yet assigned to a plugin list, it created a WordPress database error. The message was something like "Cannot communicate with database."

When I removed that bad placeholder from the template, the site loaded fine. Except now, no changes that I make are updating on the website. It seems like the Wordpress software is not communicating with the database.

I have completely removed the plugin, but there is still a list showing on my homepage (at the bottom, on the right). What did this plugin do to my database? Please help!

UPDATE: I have no idea how, but the list finally disappeared. Sorry for the alarm.

Hi,
today I installed this plugin using the "Plugin"->"Add new" page in WP 2.8.4
The installation was successfully but then, the activation failed with the following message:

The plugin does not have a valid header.

I tried again, uninstalling it, then installing again and activating it, again the same error.
This happens if I click the "Activate Plugin" link at the end of the installation page, where I see the installation report:

Downloading install package from http://downloads.wordpress.org/plugin/postlists.zip.
Unpacking the package.
Installing the plugin.
Successfully installed the plugin PostLists 2.0.2.

while the "Activate" link in the plugin page works fine.

try again now with the updated version! :-)
the problem was the folder structure of the plugin: in the plugins root there are some documentation files, and a folder "postlists" containing the plugin php file. if you install it manually by uploading, it should be clear to only upload the subfolder and not the whole plugin folder with documentation pdfs and files like that, like explained in the plugins documentation. if you let wordpress do an automatic installation it stores all the files (also with documentation that is not needed there) in the wp-plugins folder, and the "postlists" subfolder is stored as a subfolder within the folder created for the plugin. therefore the plugin file itselfe is to deeph, and wordpress is not able to find it there: "wp-content/plugins/postlists/postlists/postlists.php" (should be "wp-content/plugins/postlists/postlists.php"). now i just added an forwarder to the root folder, so that wordpress will find this and includes the plugin file than. dont know how wordpress recommends to seperate documentation files...

I need to list the latest posts (ideally plus excerpts) on this theme I'm designing and I was hoping the " Postlists" plugin might do.

However, when I go to install it, it doesn't appear anywhere on the dashboard that I can see. Have re-installed and read instructions to no avail.

Am I missing something, or else is it possible to easily list the latest say... 5 posts in a theme?

I had the same problem. Fixed it by first making sure "Activate by Expert Mode" was unchecked (I really overestimated my abilities!). Then after you select your list, go to the area for "Order the posts in the list by this field" and choose from the drop down "EC3 Start." I also changed "Order the List of Post" to ascending order.

If EC3 Start isn't listed on the drop down, you could always turn the Expert Mode back on, go to the same field and type in "ec3_start."

Hope this helps

To solve your problem, please switch to the expert mode of PostLists (in the postlists config settings), and type in a 1 (means active) in the field “Apply content filters of other plugins to post contents (apply_filters)”. Than save the list, also if there was allready a 1 in the apply_filters field, save the list! Than the filters will be applied. Now you can switch back to the normal mode of PostLists. The values you set in the expertmode will not get lost.

First of all: great plugin! I love it! It is so easy to use and incorporate into the blog. Great work!

Second: The problem.

When I use the %content% placeholder, the plugin shows the content put it removes all the html in it. Let's say I have a a few paragraphs in <p></p> tags, the content show be displayed in various paragraphs. But instead it is shown without the paragraph tags therefore it all looks like one big block of text.

This might not have to do with the plugin and may happen in the core.
Could anybody help me out?

Hi All-

I have been using the Postlists plugin to display list of posts that I have made in certain categories. For example I am using the phpBayLite to create about 20 posts that display eBay auctions on them. These posts are all listed into one category and I display this category using postlists plugin in my sidebar.

Here is an example site look at the side bar under "Hot Deals"
http://www.completebassfishing.com/

I was using postslist to generate this list. It was the best. I could just set up my postlists configuration and then place the tag into a widget and boom I had a complete list of all my posts in that category. I was doing this with wordpress 2.6

Then I just downloaded the new wordpress 2.7 and can no longer find where to access or configure this plugin. In Wordpress 2.6 you go to the manage tab and then the postlists sub menu. However in 2.7 I can't find anything like the manage tab.

Can someone help either suggest a new plugin that could do the same thin or help me figure out to to access and configure the postlists in wordpress 2.7?

Thanks

The placeholder %tag% is only supported if you have selected a tag (”Show only posts with this tag”), the posts of the list have to have assigned (”if tag is configured for the list, the tag name”). If you select a tag in the configuration of the list, the placeholder will be replaced to the name of this tag. This is because if a post has multiple tags assigned, what tag should i use? Maybe in future versions i will make a placeholder like %the_tags% that prints out all the tags linked to their archive.

Hi - I am using postlists on my site and for the most part it is working great. However in one list I want the tags for each post to be displayed along with the title. Teh documentation says this code - %tag% - will display the tags "if tag is configured for the list." I tried using the code and it doesn't return anything at all. Does anyone know what and how it needs to be "configured". I tried to find something to tell about this in the documentation and nothing.

I know that feature, but that wouldn't suit my blog, because this one particular thing with 14 posts is an exception.
Anyway, thanks for helping me, I decided to use the PostList plugin but will turn those 14 posts into 14 pages.

Thanks! That's a good plugin for making links, however how can I prevent those posts from popping out on the main (index) page?

Maybe a plugin such as PostLists?

I have like 14 post drafts (sort of a diary, for 14 days). I'd like to publish them inside just *one* post and then visitors could pick a day and read them as usual.

The trouble is, I don't want 14 new posts, just one!
I could create 14 pages and 1 post and then provide link(s) to those pages in a post, but is there a better way?

Thanks!
