If you do that, take the Order Posts and fix the code, call it Order Posts Reloaded and submit it to the plugins directory!

If do create a plugin make sure to come back here and provide a link to that plugin. Thanks.

Will mark this resolved for now.

Thank you Michael,

That explains why that plugin refuses to work at least! wp-smart-sort looks like a good plugin to use with a manually entered custom field, so thanks for that, i'll implement that for now, but if anyone knows of a plugin that allows a GUI reordering of posts (much like you can do with reordering images in the nextgen-gallery plugin) then I'd be forever in your debt.

I might even try writing my own one in the future. But I've a lot of learning to do first I suspect.

Cheers

That plugin is referring to the
post2cat
table that was converted to the terms taxonomy structure with the release of 2.3.

Might look at http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-smart-sort/

Hiya,

OK, so I'm making a portfolio based site with posts as the portfolio items. It works well in most cases. However I've just hit a snag...

I want to be able to order the posts (portfolio items) with the best work first, and not necessarily in chronological/alphabetical/etc order. Wordpress obviously isn't able to decide for itself which is best so either I add a number as a custom field to each representing my preferred order and sort by that, or I find a nice plugin which allows me to visually move posts up and down the list. The second route is preferred by me as the number thing could get complicate as I move things around, plus of course it's just plain easier to do it visually!

Anyway, so I found this plugin:
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/order-posts/

Which does exactly what I want I think, only it doesn't actually seem to work. Is it just me? Has anyone else had any luck with this one? Anyone got any suggestions of other similar plugins?

Any help appreciated.

Cheers

for 'other ways' I've made aStickyPostOrderer, it is aimed at manually setting specific orders that aren't necessarily ASC or DESC, it also allows you to pull out 'sticky' posts by tag or category or move some right to the 'bottom'

Maybe the Role Manager plugin will help. Look in the Resources at the bottom of Roles and Capabilities for a link to that plugin.

i had a similar problem where the paged results were not showing; i was getting the same 10 results with every click of NEXT>> or <<PREVIOUS. i believe the code is too rigid to allow the paged results to display.

i made the following change and it worked;
instead of
query_posts("&orderby=menu_order&order=ASC");
try
query_posts($query_string . '&orderby=menu_order&order=ASC');

if you want to change the number of posts showing per page, do this from your dashboard (Options-->Reading) instead of pushing it through here with somethin like '&showposts=10'

I installed the plugin that orders posts in whatever way you want, but whenever I add the specified code:

query_posts("orderby=menu_order&order=ASC");

to the index.php file, it causes every single page of my site to show only one post (a welcome post I made in my main category).

Any help? My site is http://inthisskin.net/epilogue. The main page (with the "Welcome!" post) is what every other page looks like when I add the above code.

hi
i continued searching and found this
"WordPress Sort Category Posts By Title" -
http://www.mikesmullin.com/2006/05/23/wordpress-plugin-sort-category-posts-by-title/

it sorts the posts by Title and thats great
but it has one limitation that it only sorts the posts when viewed the posts by category and not on the front page
but i think this will work because i don't want the front page one
but if u still find more plugin please do consider to
reply with the help
thanks

hello everyone
i tried looking, finding, searching, hunting, and even fishing ;)
and i found some hacks to make the order the posts in ascending way but none of them work or may be i didn't know to make it work :D

what i need (for wordpress 2.2 version)is to order my posts my way like for example
the posts are in categories

category 1 - posts in this category 1
post-3 on 29 june
post-2 on 28 june
post-1 on 27 june

category 2 - posts in this category 2
B-post-3 on 29 april
A-post-2 on 28 april
C-post-1 on 27 april
and so on

but i want some what my posts to be ordered by my way like
Ascending or by Title some what like this...

              (order posts Ascending)
category 1 - posts in this category 1
post-1 on 27 june
post-2 on 28 june
post-3 on 29 june

              (order posts by Title)
category 2 - posts in this category 2
A-post-2 on 28 april
B-post-3 on 29 april
C-post-1 on 27 april

Thank you so much for your help and the advice
regards
