I would very much appreciate some help... I have been looking for a solution for 4 hours without a break ^^
I even tried to check the following http://codex.wordpress.org/Changing_The_Site_URL with no success.

The weird thing is that the following URLs work:

But these don't do anything but freeze the browser:

Would anyone know what this is due to?
Cheers! Ceriko.

Here's what I tried to resolve my issue (following http://codex.wordpress.org/Login_Trouble advices):

- Clear the browser cookies & cache
- Disable plugins
- Upload a new/fresh login file
- I edited my user table but it's useless as I can't open wp-login.php
- No problem with my password (as I can't open wp-login.php, again)
- Issue not related to site URL redirecting, nor to https://
- Not a "header already sent" issue
- Not a firewall issue (because it came suddenly and because it's the same in all pc's)

I am really running out of options here... How can I access my wp-login.php page please ?

Why can't I see the posts in the default EN language?

Hi,

I am facing a very annoying problem with my blog in English, French & Spanish.

Everything was working fine until I had to log as an admin. Did I make a mistake? It just stopped working, the page never loaded.

I then wasn't able to access any page in English and I still can't log as an admin so my blog is totally useless right now. The login page wouldn't load either, how is it possible? But weirdly enough I can still read all what was written in French and Spanish...

All I did was try to log in and I have no idea what went wrong as everything was ok the last time I made changes and suddenly it stopped working.

The more I think about it the more I think it' more WP related than qT related but I don't know what to do. Please help me to fix it ! I spent too much time customizing it :)

Thanks to those who will help me understand/fix this issue. I'd like to highlight that I read & tried everything on the "login issue" WP page, i.e. removing qTranslate folder from the blog with no results (I simply lost all content except the header pic). I also read many posts in the forum but couldn't find anything similar.

We're trying to make P2 multilingual-ready and need some tiny modifications in the theme.

1. The HOME URL needs a filter. This would allow it to go to the correct 'home' per language.

2. Use the WP permlink instead of manually calculating links with 'guid'. This will allow adding language attributes to links.

These changes will only make P2 more robust and function better with other plugins. They are not specific for multilingual support.

Thanks for considering!

Hi there,

So I've just transferred my blog from wp.com to wp.org, and all my Chinese characters turned into question marks. Believe me I've spent hours trying to rectify the situation (although I can be quite illiterate when it comes to programming or anything related). Anyway, if any of you can point me to the right direction, I'd appreciate it very much.

I currently use the excellent qTranslate plugin for offering a Chinese version of a client's microsite.

However, I'm currently merging their microsites (each with a separate WP installation) into their main WP site. But they only want to offer multilingual facilities within the new "microsite" (effectively a specific WP page and all its descendants).

I'm in the process of researching this, but I thought I'd ask if anyone can recommend a multilingual plugin that has this feature - to selectively enable the plugin's functionality only on certain pages / posts?

Hi,
I've been asked to help someone set up a blog that supports both English and Chinese, and I've been poking around the plugin directory and found 3 viable candidates. I was wondering if anyone had any first hand experience with any of these:

WP Multilingual CMS

xLanguage

or qTranslate

If anyone has any feedback on any of these, positive or negative, I would really appreciate it.

icanlocalize on "Multilingual support for user input in themes and plugins"

Many themes and plugins allow users to enter texts, such as titles, footer, etc.

The user enters these texts via the admin pages and it's displayed in the site in different places.

This poses a problem for running multilingual sites. Static texts are translated via gettext. Pages/post contents are translated just fine using different multilingual plugins.

However, these texts are virtually untranslatable. There's just one version to show for all languages.

So different multilingual plugins came up with proprietary ideas on how to solve this. The problem is, we can't expect themes and plugins to support all these variations and cater to the needs of each multilingual plugin.

I suggest that WordPress include the basic mechanism for registering user inputs and then filtering it. Then, different plugins can hook. They will be able to get those values and possibly alter them.

How to create a international multilingual site?

This is a big question, I know. There are tons of answers out there but they are usually just fragments of plugins and solutions. So more specifically this is what I need to do.

Language Switcher
All Content is in multiple languages. A little language menu could switch the language. There are many plugins that seem to be able to do this. But which one will do the job well?

Each Language With Its Own URL
Each language has it's own url or subdomain or directory (folder). Like http://www.example.es or es.example.com or www. example.com/es/. That might be done with the Host.

Visitors Language is Default
Visitors in each country gets the respective version of the site. French visitors get the French site by default. I know a simple javascript can determine what language the browser is using.

In Search Engine Results Internationally
Could the German version of the site show up in search engines in Germany. It seems Google only give you one country to market within. And do you have to be hosted in that country? I know Hungary only permits sites hosted in Hungary. So is there some way to have this one website show up on search engines in many countries?

All on 1 CMS?
Can all this be run from one Wordpress CMS? Is it impossible? Can you run all these languages and show up on search engines throughout the world? Would it be better to divide it up and create separate sites hosted in their respective coutries? The website ranking and reputation would be best if the site was just one. Rather than scattered sites all over.

So do anybody has have ideas?

And here is the site. Micron Bio-Systems

The problem you're describing is most likely due to incorrect character definition for your MySQL database. Change the database to use UTF-8 and it should all work correctly.

This will make multilingual plugins work fine.

I am getting a similar sort of behaviour to Zor

At the main plage, on the first category is translated (reverse of zor)
At a category page, the category to which the posts displayed belong are translated.
At a post page only the first categoris is translated.

I am using 2.7.1

I see that in a pixiline update of gengo 2.5.3 "category description now escaped properly (thanks to Emmanuel)" Would upgrading to 2.5.3 help the situation?

Or would it help to do whatever the first poster did?

Hello,

I downloaded wordpress in my domain. I want to have the blog both in english and in greek. The language must change from let's say flag in my page.

I have found some plugins but they are for translating. But what I want is that the administration will post both languages for every post. Likewise the blog's template should be multilingual.

What is the best plugin? I tried gengo but produced an error. I didn't create the nessesary tables in my DB.

Hi folks,
I'm currently working on making my site multilanguage. For this I'm using WPML plugin. With this plugin, you have different urls per post, category, tag and pages. and all are tied to original content.
But, in both language default template is used.

my site is http://elisidunyamiz.com/ a handcraft site in turkish language.
it will be in english also, and the url will be http://elisidunyamiz.com/en/

But I want to use different templates per language. I can edit templates, and create secondary ones for english. For turkish, the default template will be used, but I don't know how I can set templates for english.

Is there an easy way to call a different template from the default index.php when user enter http://elisidunyamiz.com/en/ ?
say i created a seconday index-en.php and I want to call it. how can i achieve this ?

Or could you please guide me what is the best way for this situation ?

Thanks all taking your time

can any one provide me some links from where i can get to know how to develop a multilingual website.
also if some one can give his/her feedback on how to go about it .
actually I want to provide options of changing the content/languge of the page by selecting the desired language option button, as soon as the user clicks that button the content of the page should change to that language.

Do you know how to blog in Spanish or Chinese, or any other language in less than a half of an hour? The simplest way to make your blog or site in many languages is to use Google Translate. All you need to do is to add a new link after you finish your translation and point that link to your blog, a page or a post any way you like.
The simplest way to do this translation is to follow technique well implemented in Master Your Sleep Multilingual. This site will be translated into any of 33 languages as soon as you make a selection of the language you want to read this site with. The translation, thanks to Google, is accurate better than 80-85%, sometimes even more. It means that anyone who speaks the language other than English will be able to understand every article published on that site. In fact, there are more that 100 articles there already and all about sleep and sleep disorders! Very interesting, indeed!
For the purpose of indexing any of those languages by Google or any other search engines, it is recommended to make several pages permanently translated (by professional translators) into several languages of your choice. MasterYourSleep.com has presently posted SiteMap pages of the site in 15 languages. They all permanently posted compare to the entire site translations, which haven't been posted at all. The translation has been done dinamically; and it will disappear as soon as you close your browser. See Languages to see how it's done.
It is allowed by the site webmaster to copy any solution directly from this site by anyone who wants it.

you should not use Gengo on WP 2.8 - it was broken eversince 2.3 came out. It was somewhat fixed to work with 2.5 but a lot of issues remained. I have used it on 2.7 with a lot of limitations and errors.

I liked Gengo a lot but sadly, development of Gengo is dead...

Maybe you should try another multilingual plugin:
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/sitepress-multilingual-cms/ - looks good and feature full

http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/xili-language/ - looks very promising but still at an early stage of development

http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/qtranslate/ - quite popular but I wouldn't recommend it because of the approach it uses

Our current site has 11 static pages and 1,000 plus dynamic pages and was built in Dreamweaver.

It contains general information pages and dynamic online auction pages that translate automatically from Japanese to English. The information pages are in English though are also available in other languages with Google Translate.

We need to create more information pages and blogs in English and other languages, starting with with Spanish and Russian. We want pages developed by native speakers and not automatically translated pages.

The pages in languages other than English will be maintained by native speakers of that language. It would be good if the CMS was in English as well as the target language. We want to use Wordpress with Thesis theme.

Is it necessary to install separate instances of Wordpress/Thesis each with its own plugin to support the language characters?

My thought is that each language would be installed in its own subdirectory from the main domain. Is this the best way to do it?

Could there be issues with character set? The current site was set up to handle the Japanese to English online auction.

Thanks for your help.
