Hi,
I've recently installed MobilePress which is working nicely on streetsblog.org. One issue I'm having, though, is that mobilepress seems to be forcing pages to reload every time a user goes to them instead of using the browser cache. It does this by calling session_start() I think and this sets the response headers:
Cache-Control: no-cache...
Pragma: no-cache.
As soon as I turn off mobilepress, I don't get these headers.

Now, this becomes a problem when, say, someone enters a comment, submits it, and then is told that they didn't enter the math spam protection field properly. They'll hit "Back" to fix the field only to find that the long comment they've entered is no longer there and they have to retype it. Before I installed mobile press we didn't have this problem. The browser would just repopulate the form using the browser cache. This is on the non-mobile theme btw.

Is there a workaround for this? Could we fix mobilepress to only call the session stuff when a mobile theme is being served?

Thanks for any help you can give.

It could be WPtouch iPhone Theme or MobilePress?

I'm now running Wordpress 2.8.2 with MobilePress 1.0.4 and I still have the same problem. I'm pretty technical (I do corporate tech support for a living), so if there is anything you want me to try to get it to work, or any debugging you can get... let me know. My friends have this Plugin and love it, and I want to love it too!

ETA: My host is 1and1.com, and I have had other issues that seem to be specific to them, but I'm generally able to get around them.

This seems like a very nice and useful plugin, but please fix some basics.

1. Work with caching tools. WP is a very convenient CMS but a pathetic architecture with query_posts and whatnot. Hackjob, mostly. Which makes it vital to have caching plugins. I use the superb "1 Blog Cacher", which in fact allows me to skip the cached version of the site for browsers that match the strings in a variable called OBC_REJECTED_USER_AGENTS. This is handy, as I put some strings there such as "blackberry" (for my Blackberry browser). This works, but the manner in which MobilePress checks for blackberry is flawed. Or something. Please make sure your plugin interoperates with some of the top caching plugins.

2. Fix "eregi" type stuff in the code. This is NOT good for performance, as PHP's own manual will tell you. It's easy to replace this with something much faster, like the "stristr" function. (In system/classes/check.php). For simple blogs with a 100 or so posts and not many things in a page, this is okay, but for busy sites with lots of content, it helps a LOT to have optimized code.

Thanks.

Hi There Norwat,

Thanks for your post. I did a little looking into it and I am very puzzled that MobilePress is causing the issues with your WordPress dashboard. In the MP codebase we touch very little on the WordPress backend. In fact the only hooks we use are to create the MobilePress admin menu.

That being said, we are about to release MobilePress 1.0.4, once we do, could you please try this version and let me know if the problem still persists.

Regards,

This plug-in has a BUG in it. It took me a couple of weeks to track it down. I dealt with "Track" and ruled out WordPress. I spoke at length with my web host, and ruled out server errors. And then I started turning on and off plugins, and narrowed it down to MobilePress. At times when editing posts in dashboard, login functions stop working and I keep getting returned to initial WordPress log-in page. This effectively breaks software, and makes the WordPress dashboard unworkable.

I really like this plugin, I wish others would create some additional templates for it, and I also wish the developers would fix this bug and support their software. I'm posting here, and I would like to see a reply from the developer to assure on-going and continued development of this excellent plug-in.

I am using a mobile them called mobilepress. The theme is good but an issue about it arises when I have multiple comments. I am also using the wp-paged-comments plugin and this has a bad effect on the mobile site.

The issue is that mobilepress gives the comments a different page to display them on, seperate from the post, but when I do I get the wp-paged-comments interfering and it cuts the comments off to a set amount per page I have set it to, this case 15. I have tried using the
<?php paginate_comments_links(); ?>
in the comment section and while it looks like its paging the comments, it does not let me go to the second, third, or whatever page of the comments; it just takes me back to the post.

So what I am looking is for a way or code to display all of the comments at once, which would overwrite the wp-paged-comments plugin settings for the mobile version of the site. For reference, here is what I have for the comment section so far;

<?php

 die ('Please do not load this page directly. Thanks!');

	if (!empty($post->post_password)) {

Solved!! Took some tinkering and looking around, but I got it on my own. Feel so proud.

The solution to this issue I stumbled over the code for adding the multiple pages link if an article is split at the Codex page for template tags. I just put the

<?php wp_link_pages('before=<p>&after=</p>&next_or_number=number&pagelink=page %'); ?>

code into the single.php in both of the themes folders. That gave me a link that gave it different pages for articles that had the <!--nextpage--> in them.

I've installed this plugin and it seems based on wp settings.
So, how can I change the default homepage ONLY in the MobileVersion?
I have to change index.php file in mobilepress/themes?

That just sounds like you're switching views on your own browser. From here on out, unless you clear your browser cache you will see the full version but everyone else will see the mobile version even on their computer browsers.

On the footer, there's a link "View Full Version". Click on it.
Is is solved now?

Has anyone gotten it to work correctly on WP 2.7? I'm getting the same result as antonskey, once I activate the plugin the entire site is forced to render in the mobile theme even on regular browsers on computers.

The option to force mobile is set to no. I also checked the DB and forcemobile is "false".

Anyone else have any ideas?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Hey Younique team,

Rockin' pluging. I am thoroughly impressed.
Could we have the option to hide sub-pages? I'm using a gallery plugin that creates a new sub-page for each gallery...so I've got a long list of sub-pages under my "Photography" page. It would be nice to have the option to hide these.

Kind regards.

Thank you tylerreed,

I have been thinking of anything else is missing but nothing comes to mind :). Is there a temp fix for the paging issue? Is there a way to get the full post yet or do I wait until it is available?

Hey nemo-maritime

We're working on lots of new things for our next release. We'll make sure paging of a post is included in all default themes. Thanks for using MobilePress, please shout if you have any ideas.

Smewhat good news, the wordpress mobile plugin by Alex does not do the paged sections either. This is still a powerful plugin but I would really like to be able to show additional pages. Any ideas at all?
