I think I found a workaround.

Try the Development Version (1.4.1a).

I've been able to reproduce your problem with Ajaxed WordPress, but can't find a solution, at the moment.

Although it might not be much help, remember that non-logged in users are not affected by this issue.

Running 2.9-beta-1, this is the post content:

Test $$e^{\i \pi} + 1=0$$

This is what I get with the rich editor on:

Test $e^{\i \pi} + 1=0$

And with the rich editor off:

Test $$e^{\i \pi} + 1=0$$

I'll do some testing with the Ajaxed WordPress plugin soon.

Dear Scribu,

I found Front-end editor a great inventor for wordpress. No doubt it will be soon new standard for editor. However, I got problems working with latex code.

Your front-end editor automatically strips all '\' characters from my latex code. For example if my post content is "Test $$e^{\i \pi} + 1=0$$", after double click to edit with front-editor it will become $$Test e^{i pi}+1=0$$. I tried to disable the Rich text editor but no hope.

Another problem is that Front-end editor is not compatible with Ajaxed wordpress. When I click on the link "Continue to read on..." at the end of each post, the post will not be loaded inline as it used to be.

If above issues has been resolved, for sure Front-end editor will be my indispensable editor.

Thank you for a great plug-in.

Are multi-line equations not supported by the WP Latex plug-in?

I tried to write the example given at http://elevatorlady.ca/doc/refcard/expressions.html:

 &= 1/\cos^2 x - 1
\end{split}

But all I get is an ugly "Formula does not parse". If I remove the \begin, \end and the & signs, it parses correctly. What is going on? I wrote it in the post like this:

[latex]\begin{split}\tan^2 x &= \sin^2 x/\cos^2 x &= 1/\cos^2 x - 1\end{split}[/latex]

Hello,
my problem is that I was not able to make the WP-LaTeX plugin work on my blog. I followed exactly the instructions listed in the plugin description site

http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-latex/

and in the "readme.txt" file packed in the wp-latex.0.7.zip archive.
When I use $latex some_formulas$ I got the error

"Formula does not parse"

even for simple formulas, and also the message

"Warning: extract() [function.extract]: First argument should be an array in /home/mhd-01/www.danieletampieri.com/htdocs/wp-content/plugins/wp-latex.php on line 43".

Knowing this, I have some questions

1) Should I have a working LaTeX installation on the server?
2) Or should I configure the wp-latex-admin.php in a way to use my local LaTeX installation?
3) Why wp-latex-admin.php is not described in the installation procedure?

Thank you very much for your attention

Best regards

wpmathpub is a WordPress.org plug-in that allows you to display mathematical equations within your posts and comments: without LaTEX or MathML on your server. A new version was released today - version 1.0.6.

This version addresses one problem and improves the control over the two new features released in the last version: 1.0.5

One problem resolved in this version:

Relative addressing to reach key directories failed when admin utilities are executed. The problem showed up as a misleading error message in comment 'display view' during an admin session. The problem is resolved in this version.

Control of features was enhanced as well:
a) Deactivation of auto-write access,
b) Deactivation of math equations within comments.

See the plugin's Faq page for more details:

Hi there.

i've got three little questions regarding wordpress, i'd really appreciate it if you guys could help me out.

first, I want my front page to display a static page, i know, Settings-->Reading-->Front Page Displays: A Static Page.
i've set that, and it works perfectly, except that i have no idea how i can access my blog now! everytime I hit "Home" , or give the browser my blog's address, it jumps to the static page i've set. how's it possible to access the main index?

second, i want to list in a page, all the posts that are in a specific category (or have a particular tag). list them like, show their subjects each in a row. i read the documentation on this page, came up with this piece of script,

<?php
query_posts('category_name=Questions and Answers');
?>

but this will show the posts entirely, not just their subjects. any suggestions?

also, i read that the newer versions of wordpress support LaTeX, my blog's running on 2.5, but when i put latex scripts in my posts, they simply show up as plain text - am i doing something wrong?

Thanks in Advance:)

hi, I'm the author of this plugin.

The most reason is problem of the cache directory. You must create a directory named 'cache' under 'wp-content' and make it writable by your webserver (chmod 777 will do the trick).

Hi,
I just tried LaTeX for Wordpress plugin but when i type mathematics and some text, both are not correctly aligned!
After some search on the forums, i couldn't figure how to get LaTeX working on my website. My provider is french (www.ovh.com) and i do have access (FTP access) to a directory "/cgi-bin"...
I managed to get to mimetex but are there any other solutions?

Here is an update. I just finished publishing my WordPress Math Publisher plug-in here on wordpress.org:
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wpmathpub/

I just finished testing the plug-in from wordpress.org's site and it works fine.

I undertook this effort because I found the ability to display math equations in my blog was not well supported. Yet math expressions are such a great way to communicate a variety of ideas. I hope you find this plugin useful.

Best regards,

Ron Fredericks

I have created a new plugin called: WP Math Pub. Display mathematical expressions using dynamically generated images from special "[pmath size=xx]plain math text[/pmath]" tags embedded in a WordPress post.

It uses Pascal Brachet's phpmathpublisher library. It's an update to Matteo Bertini's WordPress plugin called PHP Math Publisher.

You can see how it works and get a copy here:
http://www.embeddedcomponents.com/blogs/wordpress/wpmathpub/

Best regards, Ron

I downloaded and activated the WP Latex and FauxML plugins, I added the directory to wp-content and made it writable.
I have then tried to enter in latex code that should be compatible, but it won't parse. I don't think my code is wrong, though, so I'm guessing I messed up on install. Any thoughts as to what I may have done wrong?
Also, I am coming from wordpress.com, and it seems that the code for that and WP Latex are the same.
I tried searching the forums and found no definitive answer... but if I just missed a post please point me in that direction. Thanks.

Thanks again! Followed your instructions, added a folder for the .js file and pointed to it explicitly in the header line.

It works!!! Displays great in Firefox and Camino doesn't in IE, but that's why we DON'T use it!

This is why I use Wordpress, for the support that users provide each other. Thanks sooooooo much!
