I'm having the same problem- asked on here and reported bug to wordpress.org people twice- haven't heard anything- Last week I was able to copy/paste but now I can't even do that. It's driving me nuts. I'm also surprised that there isn't another update to correct this problem- everyone shouldn't have to deactivate all plugins.

I am trying to build a semi-professional Wordpress plugin based on the great Jquery Cycle Plugin (http://malsup.com/jquery/cycle/). I also would like to use the WP build-in image gallery uploader. In order to make the HTML work with the Jquery plugin I need a specific output, described further below).

I would like to customise the WP gallery function to simply output a list with all images attached to the respective post/page (the images should be in the respective size: s, m or large, whichever was used in the gallery. Also same order and alt/title informations should be included with each image).

Also I would like to stop the gallery function from outputting invalid HTML i.e. it inserts style tags in the middle of the body html (basically I don`t need any of the bulky HTML WP gallery output, apart from the formatting described below).

Ideally I would like to output the attached images of a post/page either enclosed in a div (or as a HTML-list):

a.)

<div id="gallery">
<img src="xxx" alt="xxx" title="xxx"/>
<img src="xxx" alt="xxx" title="xxx"/>
<img src="xxx" alt="xxx" title="xxx"/>
</div>

b.)

<ul id="gallery">

<img src="xxx" alt="xxx" title="xxx"/>

<img src="xxx" alt="xxx" title="xxx"/>

<img src="xxx" alt="xxx" title="xxx"/>

Is there anybody who can help me on this one?

Image upload function not working here also,

I have 3 sites running 2.8.5. One is an old site that has been upgraded to 2.8.5 (has always been upgraded regularly). This one is a live site on BlueHost. The other two are brand new sites on my local apache2 server. These new sites have no plugins enabled, no content added, and they use the default theme.

All 3 sites have the exact same problem -- I cannot insert images into posts.

When I click on the image upload button, the uploader loads below the footer portion of the page instead of superimposing over the current screen as it should. What's worse, is it is also offset to the left so that most of it is off the screen and inaccessible to use. I try to load into a new tab in FireFox (3.5.5) and I get all the functions working except "insert in post." after hitting that, I get a blank white screen and nothing is inserted in the post.

I have created a ticket on this, but so far it is unassigned and no response. This is a shame really. I cannot use my site due to this and cannot develop the other two on my local server until this is resolved. It's been two weeks now.

I have tried all the usual solutions, read maybe a hundred posts on the problem, and played with permissions to no avail.

I have installed a couple Joomla isites on my local server as a result. I can't wait for WordPress forever. I may switch. I don't want to, but what choice do I have?

Maybe WordPress has gotten ahead of itself with the latest releases.

Best,
John

Found it - in my case, it's the iTunes Affiliate Link Maker plugin that caused the problem. In addition, after adding the plugin, I get a message that it's out of date - and yet when I try to update it, I'm told it's NOT out of date. I'll put this info on the plugin comments...

Same problem - media buttons are all inactive. The arrows to drop down the menus in the admin section don't work either. I'm running Wordpress 2.8.5, using either Safari or Firefox 3.5.3. Everything works fine on my 6 or 7 other sites running WP 2.8.5... so I'm going to try reinstalling it and will let you know if it helps.

I have the upload/insert icons, but clicking them does nothing.

I've had this problem for each of my wordpress installs and I have finally figured it out.

YOU MUST ADD THE DIRECTORY TO YOUR SERVER!!!

On your server in directory in wp-content folder create a new folder call 'uploads'

Then login to wordpress and under the Settings -->Miscellaneous
there is a section asking 'Store Uploads in this folder' enter wp-content/uploads (even if it says something else or is blank)

The answer is totally simple - at least it was for me. Log into your wp-admin area and on the DASHBOARD go to SETTINGS.

Choose MISCELLANEOUS

The first field is suppose to default to wp-content/uploads yet several of our blogs only had the first part "wp-content" (without quotes).

By adding the /uploads to that first field, and even leaving Month/Year, etc., alone, the uploading of images now works like a charm.

It just appears that while the "default" should have/could have been written into the 2.8.4 code itself, it was overlooked.

Hope this fixes your problem. Again, it fixed mine and several other blogs I manage.

Hi esmi,

I've tried several, also deleted them via the media library and tried again. Also deleted the month folders via ftp and tried again. It created the same two month folders and put the images in the wrong one. Very odd.

Just tried again today and it's putting the images in the /10 folder, but still the same thing is happening, -it's not showing the formatting options.

I'll try a complete re-install today. Maybe there was a glitch in the matrix or something when I installed the first time :o)

Hi,
I have read the previous 'image uploader probs' post which was resolved, but their resolution did not work for me;

I am pretty familiar with Wordpress, having installed many versions on different sites in the past.

-I'm using WP 2.4.8,
-My wp-content folder has permissions set to 777,
-My uploads folder is set to 'wp-content/uploads' in the Miscellaneous settings section,
-'Organize my uploads into month - and year- based folders' is checked.

Normally when I upload an image, it says 'crunching' for a moment, then the image thumbnail is displayed, with the alignment/title/caption/insert into post options below.

In this case, when I hit 'upload' it just shows the image filename, no thumbnail, and a 'show' link that doesn't work.
In the 'Gallery' or 'Media Library' tabs at the top, it's the same thing: no tiny thumbnail on the left, and a 'show' link that doesn't go anywhere.

However, coming out of there completely and looking in the 'media' tab on the main Wordpress leftnav, there's my image. I can click on it and see a medium sized version, click on that and get the full sized one.
I can also successfully upload an image into there using teh 'add new' link on the left.

However, Going back to my page to try and insert that image from the page gallery or the media library still doesn't work.

Here's a possible clue though:
I have only uploaded an image into this install of WP today (Oct 1st) for the first time.

Looking via ftp into wpcontent/uploads/2009/
there are 2 folders: /09 and /10

The /09 folder contains my uploaded image (plus the scaled versions of 150x150 and 300x102 that wordpress created when uploading),
The /10 folder contains nothing.

I checked my timezone settings and they are set to UTC+1 (Correct for London UK, no?)

Not sure what else to check..
Can anyone offer any further suggestions?

Thanks in advance

Okay thanks. I usually only deal with HTML and CSS so this is a new language for me. I assume then that I upload it to the etc folder in my root directory? Even though my wordpress is not installed in the root directory? Thanks for all your help -- I appreciate it!

well....if you are looking to learn about it, just google php.ini so that you know what functions are available to you.....it's pretty simple....

rg_emulation = off
allow_url_fopen = on
memory_limit = 250M
post_max_size = 100M
file_uploads = On
upload_max_filesize = 900M
upload_tmp_dir = /home/content/b/a/d/badexample/html/tmp

here's an example tho of some stuff that could go in it...... it's a pretty simple file...

It's a smaller, local hosting company. I think I am going to have to create my own php.ini file since they just confirmed that one doesn't currently exist on the server... That is unchartered territory for me. Any advice on what information goes in that file? Or better yet, is there an example you can post?

who is your host?

I have godaddy, and since it is shared hosting I don't have shell access, but I was able to just create my own php.ini file and it worked for me to be able to adjust tmp directory & file upload sizes....

I hate to post yet another topic on the dreaded "Missing a temporary folder" but I think I know what my problem is... I just don't have a solution.

Upon initially getting this error, I did all the suggested fixes:
- I tried a variety of paths and full URLS on the Settings > Miscellaneous page
- I created a "tmp" and "wwwtmp" folder in the directory where WordPress is installed (since it is not installed in the root folder)
- I contacted the hosting company in regards to the php.ini file (since I don't have shell access) and they just told me: "In the ' www / htdocs / tmp' folder on the server, there is a folder called "tmp" that already exists. You should be able to read-write-execute that folder." This, of course, wasn't the answer I was hoping for, especially since I was the one who created that folder.

My question is this: Is there anyway I can set the upload_tmp_dir in a file other than the php.ini? Without access to that file, I don't know what my options are. I have recontacted the hosting company in regards to that file, but don't expect to get much helpful information back.

Any solutions would be greatly appreciated.

I think i've solved the problem!!! whooo!!!

for those of you who come after and find this thread, here's what i discovered:

first, I disabled both Firefox No-Script and AdBlock Plus addons. I'm not positive whether either of these had a had in the problem but there is a definite possibility that one of them was screwing with the code. Theres a lot of other posts about this causing a problem.

When in FTP, i kept noticing after uploading images through the wordpress media library it was creating the folder C:\wamp\www\wp/wp-content/uploads, even after I had changed the miscellaneous settings to /wp-content/uploads

my FTP client wasn't allowing me to delete this directory. so i opened up file manager in cpanel and used that to delete it. however this is not where the images were being dumped. What i finally figured out was that wordpress was creating another folder inside the wp-admin folder with the same path, and that is where the images were getting uploaded.

in the end i wiped out any folders that were c:\wamp\www\... (it was also creating a folder called 'http:' which was empty. not sure why

then after this when i used the uploader it created the appropriate directory.

Very likely! Try amending it to the correct path (e.g.
wp-content/uploads
)

ah, wait. i've noticed also that when i went in wordpress to 'Settings' > 'Miscellaneous' and for 'store uploads in this folder' I had C:\wamp\www\wp/wp-content/uploads (since i built the site locally on my wamp server)

I have changed this already prior to my testing with the original site. What i'm now wondering if it left something in the database that would need to be corrected. is that a possibility?

since I also just discovered on my other blog that i also had not changed that folder name since i moved to a live server, that this might be the root of the problem since they both have that in common
