Thanks--sorry for being so vague.

The redirects I have done seem to work, I guess I just need to keep up with them as Google indexes them, and hope that they'll get updated eventually to the right ones.

Is there an easy way to globally change all my posts' names? I've been doing them one by one. I changed them from site/date/postname to site/postname.

It'll take Google a while - but if your redirection is done right, it shouldn't matter. Even if people would find you as example.com/post-url-old/ in Google, a correctly functioning redirect should resolve to example.com/post-url-new/

Are you sure your redirect works as it should? Type the old URL in your browser and make sure it redirects to the new URL.

Without examples of the searches that you say cause issues, it's hard to really understand what the issue is here.

Hello--

My site is kellymagyarics.com. I'm running the AIO plugin, and have verified my site with all the major SEs. I've been having all kinds of Google search problems with it. I changed the post format last week, and now a lot of my posts are unreachable. I am using a redirection, but Google webmaster keeps indexing more and more of them and listing them as unreachable. How long will it take for Google to index them and list the right links?

Also, I have sidebars on the left and right sides--left side is recent posts, and right side is Twitter. Is there a way to make the text in those sidebars NOT come up in a Google search. It's pulling info from other posts and readers will get confused when they click on a link and it's not what they are expecting.

Finally, I've done some searches for some posts, and instead of bringing the full text of a post, Google takes me to one of the pages on my site that has synopses of several posts. Why isn't a search returning just the full text of one particular post?

Thanks in advance!

I am using Contact form 7 right now, but when someone submits the form it does not go to another page, it just displays a message. I am looking for a form option that redirects the user to another page when they hit submit- like a thank you page or something, so that I can track the submission in Google Analytics, to be able to see where the person who submitted the form came from (if I am getting form submissions from someone who clicked on a adwords ad I know I should keep that up- same with other sources of traffic. - I would set up the thank you page as a goal)

so do any of the wp form options redirect to a separate page? Planning to put it on http://letterstobreathe.com/submit/

Hello,

My web site is actually made up of two WP286 installations. One in the /en directory, the other in the /fr directory (you're right, there's a French version and an English version).

Guess what? I'd like to have two independent sitemaps each in its own directory. But it seems that Chicago Press sitemap generator can only create the XML sitemap at the top of the directory hierarchy. Is there a way to do it? Is it only a matter of hard-coding that in the PHP code? Is there a later version planned with the option of setting the location in the admin/settings panel?

Thanks in advance.

Recently the Incoming Links module on the dashboard has started asking me to log in. So, too, the Wordpress Development Blog module. None of the other modules exhibit this behaviour.

I am using Google Chrome and have noticed that the same problem does not occur in Firefox. It also does not occur in Google Chrome when visiting my installation in Incognito mode. I assume, therefore, this is a problem with cookies but, after clearing them, the error remains.

Is anyone else having this problem?

There are a few code validation errors that might possibly stop you from being indexed (if Google can't crawl the site properly), but Googlebot is pretty forgiving from my experience, so I doubt that'd be the case. Might want to fix them up anyway.

Only other comment that springs to mind would be that there's not a lot of text content to actually be indexed - so that might be a factor (nice looking site though). Pictures with little/no surrounding text don't usually tend to rank very well.

Getting some decent links from other relevant sites would help enormously too.

Hi.

I'm trying to show the exactly words that visitors wrote in Google when they come into my site. I know this can be done because i did it with the Moremoney Plugin, but now it's not working.

Actually, i know that the website taringa.net makes this feature, but i don't know how they are doing it. If you write anything in Google, and you get to that site, it shows the words you wrote.

How can i get those Search Keywords? How can i show them in a welcome page?

I'm not sure what's going on, but Google is not indexing my most recent blog posts. The last post that was indexed was on Nov. 12. After that, nothing. The cache for my main site, vanessamphoto.com shows Nov.12 as the last time it was cached and that's also when my last blog post was indexed. I haven't done anything differently.

Any idea what I can do to get back in the crawler's good graces? :-) The site is not new and I haven't had any problems in the past. Suddenly, it just isn't being indexed. Thanks for any help!

I used to have a simple 301 redirect in the root domain, but i've since changed it to follow these instructions:

So google was formerly indexing everything as domain/sub/*. Now those links no longer apply, so what is the best way to change things so that Google removes those links? Is this better done with robots.txt? Should i ad the url domain/sub to google and give them the preferred address? What's the best solution if you know?

did you EVER have libnks pointing to that subdomain? you HAD to have ONE somewhere -- googlebot follows links, it doesnt go places its not sent.

That said, now that you are here..

you could move wordpress into the root of your domain -- that would cause all the subdir links to 404. A better solution, though, to the 404 might be to send a 410 Gone. (thats what I would do -- Google likes them) You can do that with a one line edit to your .htacces

http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=40132

domain/sub/unique-tag

domain/unique-category
domain/sub/unique-category

domain/unique-page
domain/sub/unique-page

I use google sitemap, and it publishes only the links with the domain and not the subdirectory included.

Does anyone have any recommendations on how to fix this?

I think Platinum SEO is as simple as activating it. Look below your new posts, and you should have a window with Platinum SEO. I always manually enter that info, but if you don't I think it automatically fills in.

I've downloaded the following plugins that involve SEO:

 - Automatic SEO Links
- Platinum SEO Pack
- Vibe SEO Pack

The only problem is, i don't know how to use them. I thought I could just download it and follow easy instructions, but they're dashboards are asking for things that I have no idea what they are.

I'm truly a noob when it comes to all of this.

Can you please help me? I desperately need Search Engine Optimization to drive traffic to my site. How do I implement these plugins optimally? Are these plugins sufficient to do the job? If not, do you recommend another avenue?

Thanks,
Chaz

Okay then. I took a slightly more paranoid approach and just re-created the tags, but didn't attach anything to them. That way there is a page there for Googlebot to see, if needed.

Thanks for your help alism. :)

You wouldn't get a penalty for having a broken link on pages that they've crawled and indexed previously. Like I say, so long as you've fixed the link ready for next time Googlebot swings by, you should be fine (I don't actually think you'd get a "penalty" there anyway, unless you had lots and lots of broken links on each page)

Besides, if you 301 it, it's no longer a 404 anyway...

I thought the Goog penalized any site that had 404s of any kind...
