Hello shidouhikari,

I am glad if you develop the plugin further.

Of course you can contact me if you want to talk about any point, just drop me a line here:
http://francesc.hervada.cat/contact.html

There are other similar plugins, but as far as I know none does exactly the same thing.

Best regards,

Hello Francesc I'm willing to continue your plugin support.

It is great and cannot be left gone!

ATM it is working fine for me, but if it gets outdated all my posts will be broken and it will be a pain to get another plugin that does the same.

Could I keep in contact with you, just in case I'm not able to understand what a piece of code is doing?

Or as an alternative, is there another plugin that does the same trick?

Hi again,

well I've not moved to another blog platform. I have a small blog that I've now integrated with my personal homepage. I do this with a tool written by me I am experiencing with, the 'Universaltext Interpreter':
http://u-tx.net

Thanks for the response, Francesc. I'm sorry to hear you've moved on. I'd be very interested to hear what platform you've moved to (if that's what you've done). You've done a great job on this plugin and I appreciate all your work on it.

The steps I described in my post got me going again. The only reason I'm leaving this as unresolved is because I had to do something manually in the database to fix it. If I get a chance, I'll take a look at the code to see if I can fix the problem.

The other thing that I need to look into supporting is in-page links (i.e. #name).

Anyway, thanks again for all you've done here.

Hello David,

please note that I abandoned this plugin and will not do any changes to it, so that some day it will become outdated, as I announced on the plugins homepage. Unfortunately I do not have enough time to support it any more.
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/cross-references-plugin/

Please try the following: Uninstall the cross-references-plugin completely. There is an tool at the plugin's setting page to do this that removes completely all plugin data from the database.

After that, activate the plugin again, go to its settings page and set wether the references are by post id or post slug and then rebuild the plugins index (also a tool at the settings page.)

I think this should work.

Best regards,

This is probably my favorite plugin. Outstanding work.

I wanted to report a problem I ran into with this plugin. I built a site at a test URL (e.g. http://internaltest/) and once I had it how I wanted it and got approval, I moved it to the final url (e.g. http://internal/). After making all the changes described on these pages:

http://codex.wordpress.org/Changing_The_Site_URL

http://beconfused.com/2007/08/28/how-to-solve-you-do-not-have-sufficient-permissions-to-access-this-page-in-wordpress/

everything looked fine. However, when I edited one of my posts, I kept getting an HTTP 500 error. Refreshing the page and viewing the page showed that my changes were saved properly.

I then went through my plugins one at a time and tracked it down to this one. Deactivating and reactivating didn't solve the problem. Then I found that going to the settings page produced the same HTTP 500 page.

The solution was to deactivate, delete all the options, then activate. Everything works again.

Note that in addition to renaming the siteurl I also changed the table prefix. Not sure which one caused the problem, but one of them did. Hopefully this is enough info so the author can track down and fix the bug.

Thanks and keep up the excellent work.

I cannot figure out what your problem is. You can try to rebuild the cross-references table: go to the plugin options page and use the tool "rebuild". Perhaps this helps. If not, you can try to inactivate all your plugins and then activate them one by one, to see whether this is an incompatibility between 2 of your plugins.

Hi,

this is a nice suggestion. Unfortunately this is not something it can be done easily, perhaps a small button with a simple list were easy, but that would not be that helpful, and the logic to search for posts to link to would rapidly become more and more complicated. I do not have enough time to go into this. Appart from that, I would not use this myself, because I do not write the blog posts on the admin panel.

I am sure that a lot of people would like such functionality, though. If someone wants to extend this plugin or make a new one based upon mine, this is welcome, go ahead!

Best regards,

Hello !

Such a nice plugin, but it's just not very useable for "normal people" (read: the ones who use post editor in visual-mode).

It would be great to be able to create cross-references through small button in post editing dialog for tinyMCE. Dialog that opens from the button might have a list of pages & posts to link to, as there is in RB Internal Links-plugin (http://www.blograndom.com/blog/extras/rb-internal-links-plugin/).

Hi,

now the plugin does not show the related posts list on rss. (You can easily hack the plugin to get this, though, you just need to edit function cref_list_crossreferences at crossreferences.php). Perhaps I will add an option to enable or disable this when I release a new version of this plugin.

Hi, I tried your import tool, but many of my posts were deleted and so I had to restore them from database backup :-(

Is it also possible not to show related posts when using "more" tag? I want to show related posts only on post page. I know that I can use template tag, but it would be fine to have similar choice in administration. Also when using template tag, then settings (before, between and after) had to be set exactly in template even if they are set in options (administration).

On your cast of characters page, made the headers links like this:

<h2><a name="jimbo">Jimbo</a></h2>

Then on your post you do this:

So when <a href="cast-of-characters/#jimbo">Jimbo</a> called me...

Actual link may vary depending on how your permalinks are setup, of course.

You could also make shortcodes so
[Jimbo]
autolinked itself, I suppose.

Second, yes, I have already linked to the page, but I'd like to be more specific. For instance, I have a 'cast of characters' who are mentioned in my blog, and whenever I mention one of them, I want to link to their paragraph, so new readers can get the context. Right now, I'm linked to the page, which is okay. But I'd like to link to the heading that has each person's name. (Some characters are further down the page, so when you just link to the page, you land at the top, and you get the bio of somebody else, not the person who's being mentioned.) I want it to be a direct connect to a piece of text or a header. Does that make sense?

Is that possible? It must be!

Finally, thanks for the heads-up on the fact that 2.7 may automatically include some plug-ins. If I've gotten that error codes on other Plug-ins it probably means I don't need them either... thanks tons.

First - couldn't you just put a link in your post? Or how about a plugin such as http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/cross-references-plugin/

Second -Error is probably a result of the WordPress Automatic Upgrade plugin. If you are at WordPress 2.7 deactivate and delete that plugin as you no longer need it.

My objective is to link to a page within my blog. For example, I mention a person, and this links to a previous post, or another page, where this person's history is elaborated upon. It's a reference. Anyway, I looked through the forum for suggestions on this, and learned that I ought to install the Plug-in Exec PHP, which I di, and while downloading I received this message:

nstalling Plugin: Exec-PHP 4.9

Downloading plugin package from http://downloads.wordpress.org/plugin/exec-php.4.9.zip

Unpacking the plugin package

Fatal error: Cannot redeclare pclziputilpathreduction() (previously declared in /home/content/w/e/b/websitefixer/html/maternal-dementia/wp-content/plugins/wordpress-automatic-upgrade/lib/pclzip.lib.php:5421) in /home/content/w/e/b/websitefixer/html/maternal-dementia/wp-admin/includes/class-pclzip.php on line 5498

So I have two questions. First: will this plug-in allow me to reference other posts and pages within my blog? And second: why was there a fatal error?

If it has to do with changing permissions, then I really need help, because I've wanted to add other plug-ins that require this but unfortunately my entry-level comprehension of this world keeps me from achieving this. Despite instructions in the READ ME files, it's over my head.

Thanks to anyone who can offer a suggestion.

Hello!
I'm using the cross-references plugin 1.4.02 with wordpress 2.6.3

Everything works fine except when deleting a post with a [cref mypostslug] in it. Then I get the following error:

Warning: mysql_query() [function.mysql-query]: Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: NO) in .../wp-content/plugins/cross-references-plugin/crossreferences.php on line 159

Plus a bunch of other errors that are related to the first error.

Why is the plugin trying to access the database with the root user and also assuming that the DB is on localhost?

If I create a new post with a new cref in it - the link is generated ok and a record is written into the wp_crossreferences table. The record is removed when the post is deleted even though I get all the errors.

best regards Johan

Hello nooozeguy,

if the page you want to refer to has this slug:

10-ways-to-save-time-with-mobile-manager

you put a cross-reference to it with this code:

Print a grab-and-go [cref 10-ways-to-save-time-with-mobile-manager], suitable
for your next meeting.

If on the link above you do not want the page title but the text "Mobile
manager" to be shown, you can place this:

Print a grab-and-go [cref 10-ways-to-save-time-with-mobile-manager Mobile
manager], suitable for your next meeting.

Hope this helps.

Great plugin!!
I am having some trouble getting it to work for me though on a page (it's in draft form, so I cannot send you a link).

Here's my code... I would be quite grateful if you could tell me what I am doing wrong (or if there is a more extensive set of documentation online).

Thanks!

After importing the HTML links using this plugin, I have a duplicate of every html link, rather than a [cref] link replacing it.

Any ideas?

I found the solution. The Reveal IDs for WP Admin 2.5 plugin adds the IDs back to the admin UI.

It would be much more preferable if this was part of the standard admin UI rather than force users to build a plugin for it.

I've been using the Cross-references plugin for quite some time now and it has been a great tool for linking posts. I'm in the process of upgrading to WP 2.5.1 and I'm testing out all my plugins on a test blog. I went to add some cross references and noticed that the Manage Posts admin page no longer lists the post ID. How do we use this plugin if we can't see the ID anymore? Is there a way to add the ID back to the admin page?

Thanks,
