I love this plug-in but when I show the excerpt in the widget, it is indented way too much. Is there a way align the excerpt content with the post link?

This would look better and not waste so much space.

Thanks in advance with any help on this!

I had trying to figure out how to modify the plugin not to show posts in child categorys. I found
query_posts(array('category__in' => array(§id)));
code, but don't no how to use that code in plugin.

So if somebody could help me with this? Or is there better way to do this?
I could use only that code and specify that in template, but it would be easier to use widgets.

Hi all,

this is wonderful widget. I would use it extensively. But there is a problem.

whenever i place the category widget on side menu and choose a category, ALL names of my pages and posts are replaced with the name of chosen category. looks very weird, but that is true. I am using Portal Colorido theme.

Category Posts was upgraded to ver 2.2. Previous ver used 1.3

After activating ver 2.2 and reestablishing CP Widget at Sidebar, the FF Broswer Tab heading changed:

from: Windmill on the Hill
to: Download Depot | Windmill on the Hill.

Deleted ver 2.2 and reuploaded ver 1.3, reactivated ver 1.3 and the Browser Tab heading returned to Windmill on the Hill (which is the correct heading for the URL.)

This is a very useful plugin.
In IE7/Vista, the admin panel settings barely work. This would likely be a JavaScript problem.
As a stopgap until the author fixes it, here is what works:
1. Add the widget and save before you try to move it. If you move it without saving, it disappears.
2. You cannot highlight any information in the boxes inside the widgit. However, if you just put the cursor at the start, you can delete and add information.
I left this 'unresolved' so that the author would read it - it's ok for the author to mark it 'resolved' once they have read this.

Thanks, a very useful widget for a site I'm working on.

wordpress 2.7 by default has the 'sticky' option, but it is still ignored by the category posts plugin. I have modified the plugin to support stickies:

replace cat-posts.php, line 40 with this:

$cat_sticky = get_posts(array('post__in'=>get_option('sticky_posts'),'category'=>$cat_id));
if($cat_sticky[0]){
	$num -= count($cat_sticky);
}
$cat_nonSticky = get_posts(array('post__not_in'=>get_option('sticky_posts'),'category'=>$cat_id,'numberposts'=>$num));
$cat_posts = array_merge($cat_sticky,$cat_nonSticky);

This way, all the stickies from the category will be read first, then all the 'non-stickies'

Hope it works for you

I found this post a little late, but I made the following change to the cat-posts.php file that others might find useful.

Find:

the_excerpt();

Replace with:

if ($post->post_excerpt!=NULL) {
 echo $post->post_excerpt;
}
else {
 the_excerpt();
}

I found the solution for the date problem. Here it is:

echo $post->post_date = date("F j, Y",strtotime($post->post_date));

It did the trick for me.

I just noticed that I have the same problem with the date.

Can you do something similar to fix this problem as well?

Checking how my site fairs on Internet searches, and I've noticed that many of the results lead to non-existent pages. They seem to be mainly from entries using the Category Post Plugin and Simply Exclude, which I use to prevent sidebar posts from appearing on the front page. Is one of the plugins to blame, both, or none?
