Thanks for all the suggestions Otto.

Yes, I was able to access the URLs of the approved plugins, but SVN folders in the repository were not created during a whole month. I don't think I'm just being impatient here. I did submitted the issues 2 or 3 times via the bug report you mentioned and waited for at least a week now.

I haven't tried emailing any of the contributors directly nor Matt himself, even though I thought about it.

The account where I can't publish in the forums is the same one I was submitting the plugins from. May be that's the main reason to all my problems some kind of access level restriction? I usually don't post in the forums and my history shows pretty much only support for the plugins I released before. Where do I find the support forums mailing list?

Thanks again for your help!

When you get an approval for a plugin, the SVN repo may not show up immediately. It might take up to several hours. So, patience is good. The requests screen here: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/add/ will show you plugins that have been approved but have no content in them yet, and clicking those will give links to their entries (along with the admin settings for them). Approved plugins that never get content added to them get scrubbed out every so often. A delay of a month could cause this to happen, so max delay should be a week before checking in at least a readme.txt or something.

First problem:
The only method to contact the team regarding the plugin SVN repository is via this form: http://wordpress.org/report-bugs/

PROTIP: Keep it short and simple. More likely to get a response that way. Also make sure that any responses you get aren't being sent to a spam folder. Also make sure that the URL you use on the bug report form is a wordpress.org one.

Usually I can get a response back in a day or three. Don't expect immediate action.

Failing that, try emailing a couple of the developers on here: http://wordpress.org/about/

Failing even that, as a last resort, try emailing Matt directly. He's usually able to forward problems to the right people, and he reads all his mail, but a) there's a lot of it and b) he travels a fair amount, so it might take a while for him to get to it.

Second problem:
What you describe with your other account sounds like it got bozo'ed. The bozo flag is usually used for spamming accounts. Could have been turned on for you by accident. Use the bug report form to report it, or make a post to the wp-forums mailing list, where it can get handled properly. They will need a link to your profile on the problem account (the link includes the profile number).

Hi,

I have a problem with my account (maxchirkov) on a few different levels. In order to make this post, I had to create a different account.

Here are the problems:

First problem: At the beginning of September I added a new plugin (simple real estate pack) which was approved. By the time I was ready to make a first release (last week of September), as usually, I started with a checkout of a blank repository folder, but I got a message that the folder didn't exist. So, I tried contacting WP team via bug support (2 times), but never heard back. I resubmitted the plugin, and it was approved again, but the SVN folder was not created in the repository, so I couldn't make the initial checkout, just like the first time. In a few days after that the actual plugin URLs disappeared (the ones that had the plugin name, description and the creation/approval date).

Second problem: I tried submitting a post regarding this in the support forum, but my posts were not publicly visible. I can see them when I'm logged in, but they are not available to other users, nor when I'm logged out. I asked some one with a WP account to check on URLs of my posts and they were receiving a bbPress error that the topic was not found.

I would appreciate if some one could help me in this forum, or contact me personally via email on my account (maxchirkov) so we could resolve the issues I mentioned above.

Thank you.

Max

Hello everyone,
I've just installed bbpress 1.0.2 and bbpress integration plug-in over my 2.8.4 wordpress blog... and I am in hell.
The blog still works, from the viewer point of view (www.teknologik.fr), but the backend is a mess.

First of all, I couldn't log in at all in the wordpress admin panel. My login and password took me to a white page saying that I didn't have the rights. Hopefully, I had a second login with administrator right so I was able to change my "own" rights, under the second administrator login. But that was just the beginning...

Articles and Pages counter, in the main admin windows now shows "0", although there are over 700 articles, when I do click on "Articles".
When I try to add a new article, the ID at the end of the permalink is "1"... when the previous permalinks (when it still worked) showed four digits, like "5414".

I've deleted both "bbpress" folder and "bbpress integration" plug-in but it didn't change anything.

On top of all, I was working on a fresh re-install of the blog and the database backup wasn't set yet, so my last backup is 3 weeks old, with tenths of new articles in between that would be lost if I had to re-install that backup.

What can I do without returning to the last backup ? Any idea ?

How can I backup only the articles added to the dabatase since the last backup ?

A million thanks, in advance...

Benjamin

I am running WP and BBPress integrated together on same domain which works fine. I was starting to accrue spam daily so I installed reCAPTCHA onto bbpress. This is fine too. However, for WP I have installed wp-recaptcha using the same private/public keys from the captcha site. When I try a registration, it looks the part, but registers irrespective of the contents of the captcha box and when enabled in settings, I am unable to post comments.

I think that this may be a stretch too far. I tried deactivating akismet, but this has no effect.

A while back, I added bbPress to my website. I used the bbPress Integration plugin, but it never quite worked right. Since then, I've seen too little need for integration, and I'd like to just get rid of it -- keeping the bbPress installation, but getting rid of integration.

I can't find good instructions anywhere on how to do this. Further, I can't even properly get into my bbPress admin area. I log in, but I just get the regular bbPress screen, and when I click Admin, it just redirects me right back to the regular screen.

Help! Thanks :)

I installed the BBpress Latest Discussion plugin and see the option: Text Limit: Set the length of text you want to show, but I don't see a template tag to show the post-content. Can anyone help me with a workaround so I can show the post-title, the poster and the content?

Hi all,
sadly bbsync still doesn't work AFAIK and so I'll probably head with SMF.

At least SMF has this plugin.

http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/post-to-smf-forum/

I wish bbpress were a truly "out of the box" solution with all the SMF features already built in.

I wish bbpress were a plugin to WP core, so that all I had to do was click a few buttons and it was there.

I wish this also had a bbsync blog-post-automatically-to-forum-post function that I could just switch on, also bbpress core.

But it isn't. From the BBpress forums, it seems to have all sorts of issues integrating with WP.

I may as well just operate 2 separate databases, and keep the thing simple. Once users have logged in and accepted the cookies they don't have to keep logging in anyway... they're auto-logged in. If a WP post can be automatically shunted across to SMF as an SMF post with an automated link to that post, wow!

One day I hope to migrate my SMF database across to a truly "everything in it out of the box" bbpress forum, but right now the basic package is to sparse, and all the good "optional extras" that I call core basics could easily be dropped by 3rd party developers because they are not core. That is the key issue that makes phpbb3 and SMF a safer option for now. I can always convert later, if bbpress comes around. Just being honest.

OK, good points, and WP is a blog.

But if it heads into the CMS market competing with Drupal and Joomla, maybe it will want to back BBpress as an even easier, "Wordpressier" kind of plug in that just shares everything really easily.

"They're both php scripts and it doesn't take a genius to skin them the way you want and make them share user login info."
That's where I disagree. I'm a humanities/arts kind of guy, and this stuff is a fairly mysterious arcane art to me. You guys do magic with code! ;-)

I'm sorry if the above came across as criticism, I'm really very grateful for all the open source communities are doing.

It would be VERY bad to have say 2000 activists calling me in the middle of the night because SimplePress stopped, WP upgraded, it died... and I didn't know how to fix it.

First, WP doesn't upgrade itself...you upgrade it. Anyone who is running a production, active, important site, and upgrades the site without first backing everything up and/or testing the upgrade on a test site...well...you fill in the rest ;-)

If your forum is that important to you, then there are some really solid, well tested forum apps out there that have been around for a very long time with more features that you will ever get in a WP forum add-on...and that's simply because WP is a blog...not a forum.

phpBB (open source) and Invision Power Board (proprietary) are just a couple stable, well tested, dedicated forum apps. They're both php scripts and it doesn't take a genius to skin them the way you want and make them share user login info.

If your site is so important that 2,000 people will be calling you in the middle of the night if it stops working, then you may need to take @Spykie's advice and hire a programmer to be on stand-by ;-)

This isn't about the way something displays on my blog, but how hundreds, maybe thousands of other people interact

I would be running a political activist forum which might attract politicians. It would be VERY bad to have say 2000 activists calling me in the middle of the night because SimplePress stopped, WP upgraded, it died... and I didn't know how to fix it.

That's why I was WISHING that there was an easy plug-in "official, full powered" forum for Wordpress, backed by all the powers that back Wordpress. Wordpress is SO great and well respected but this quaint (and respectable amount of work!) little operation might be great now, but just as with bbsync, there are no guarantees. I want guarantees before committing a few hundred people to something.

I'm looking into it. SMF might have a script soon... if there's just ONE solid converter out there, people feel they have a bridge to take then they can dance around between the other forums as they wish. One bridge, and I feel I could "give something a go". Without it I'm reluctant to commit.

...but it is not backed by the "big names" of WP, like Matt or the Automatic team.

Neither are the vast majority of WP plugins or themes that you can download directly from wp.org...they are 3rd party applications that play a major part in making WP what it is today. Want guarantees...install nothing but the standard WP code...want a nice, functional forum plugin...give it a try. The worst that can happen? If it stops working, then you won't have a forum in your WP install...like you currently don't have ;-)

Yes, it looks really nice and is kind of what I'm after, but it is not backed by the "big names" of WP, like Matt or the Automatic team.

I can't remember, is bbpress backed by Automatic?

I note that bbsync went dead, which would have helped tip the balance for me for bbpress... but alas bbsync is no longer supported.

What's to guarantee that this won't as well and that I'll be stuck? I don't know sql enough to convert databases from one type of forum to another.

When shopping around for a CMS/forum portal, it's good to be cautious and flexible. If SimplePress had converters OUT into the "mainstream' forums, I'd be happier, (because then you can generally find converters from one to another like SMF to phpbb3 to bbpress and back again).

But I haven't been able to find any. It's only got 2000 members of it's forum, so that indicates that there might not be that many users of Simplepress. Even the Agora forum plugin for Joomla has 7300 forum members.

http://jvitals.com/index.php?option=com_agora&id=19&Itemid=105

Basically, I'd love Matt to take something like BBpress/Simplepress and make it a core feature of WP, just as Matt is making MUWP the standard soon.

Not going to happen with comments...I would suggest looking at the following plugin.

Hi all,
I'm not that familiar with administrating Wordpress comments... so I'm wondering if my site can get by without a full on "forum".

So... with comments:
* How do I ban users / spammers?
* Can I limit comment length?
* Can I let them edit their comments?
* What about images?
* WYSIWYG?
* are there wordpress.tv "how to comment" tutorials?
* What about just *one* email per discussion thread until the user goes back, like many other forums? Getting one email for every post is a bit like belonging on an email list. It can be more efficient in one's thinking to see a few thread emails one could reply to, and choose the "ABC" thread instead of the "XYZ" thread, and go in and read all the comments in sequence on the site. Having all the various comments from various threads sitting in one's email is a bit annoying.

Basically, I want all the power of BBpress in the comments but not the hassle of setting it up.

The only way I could get WP and bbPress to integrate (also using the built-in bbPress integration setup) was using the WP Root Cookie plugin.

I tried all of the wp-config and bb-config modifications and none of them worked. The issue goes back to the beginning posts from this thread with the cookie domain issue.

I am integrating bbPress 1.0 with my WP 2.8 site. I want to use the same header and navigation in bbPress as I have on the blog, so if I add more pages the bbPress navigation will be automatically updated.

I included wp-blog-header.php in the bbPress setup and customized the bbPress header.php in the theme folder, and it all looks and works great - except that none of the WP plugins are being called into the header. For instance I have a WP plugin that hides some pages in the menu, but in the bbPress header the pages are showing again.

Is there something else I need to do when using wp-blog-header.php to make it use the plugin functionality?

But I still think WP comments should be as powerful as everything we normally associate with forums. That's the way many other article-to-comment-on sites seem set up.

WYSIWYG
Images
Email replies
the lot

There's some things I really love about WP, but I'm thinking of my non-technical academic political reform friends when I say WYSIWYG editing of comments as forum posts would REALLY help.

AH! So perhaps the fix is 'Copy the key from wp-config.php, not from the bbPress interface.'?

That is bizarre.
