Your post is 6 months old, so I'm sure this is too late to be of any help, but someone else might like to know. I have a local install of Wordpress that I use for testing things like this out.

If you enable month- and year-based folders, any uploaded files will go into folders associated with the post date and not the upload date. However, changing the setting does not effect files you've already uploaded. It only applies to uploads going forward. Hopefully you were able to find a plug-in to help you out!

Please help. I have shot myself in the foot big time.

My main Wordpress installation is two years old and has way over 2000 images in the uploads folder. Little did I know that there are limitations when it comes to FTP with hosts (I don't see all files when connecting as the server truncates files at 2000).

With a little bit of foresight and web savvy, I should of course have chosen the option for a year and month based folder structure.

Please tell me that there is a plugin or something, that will enable me to split existing uploads in to a year and month based folder structure. Preferebly by posts date (not upload date).

If there is no deirect solution (other than manually editing 2500 posts...) What if I went back and deleted all thumbnails? I assume they are created at the time of upload only? Will this break something (other than not being able to see thumbnails in the Media Library? Once I get the files down in number -> I would switch to a month and year based folder structure.

Thanks for looking.

Hi,
I've been searching for some guidance on this subject but to no avail.
I want to have an horizontal menu that displays all my parent categories, and when I click on one of those, below it displays another horizontal menu but with the child categories of the clicked one.
The styling I think I can handle, but the php that would display the correct children upon clicking on the parent is what I cannot get right.

I've found that this kind of menu is very used but with pages instead of categories. This is a code I found and I replaced every 'pages' for 'categories', but it didn't work (it was worth trying...).

<ul id="nav">
     <?php wp_list_categories('depth=1&title_li='); ?>
</ul>
<?php if(wp_list_categories("child_of=".$post->ID."&echo=0")) { ?>
     <ul id="nav-sub">
          <?php wp_list_categories("title_li=0&child_of=".$post->ID."&sort_column=menu_order");?>
     </ul>
<?php } ?>

Any help will be appreciated.
Thank you very much for your time!

The truth is that the vast majority of us internet marketeers are not making millions of dollars, so let’s not pretend as though we are. We are not living in ten bedroom beachfront houses. We are not driving exotic sports vehicles. The pictures that you see of those who are sporting those items are for the most part a farce. The truth is that we are trying to create enough residual income to live a comfortable life without the chains of our eight (or more) hour job. Hello! I’m Darren and I’m not writing this post to elaborate on the frustrations that the majority of us marketeers have experienced, but to share the information that’s helping me with anyone intrested . The truth is that if we handle our jobs as hobbys we won’t have them for long. The same holds true for internet businessess. Sometimes I think about how I got to where I did on the job - the work I had to do - the hours I had to put in - the attitudes I had to endure (if I was going to remain there), the colds, flu, and other physical challenges - if we handle our businessess in the same manner, we could make more than our jobs could ever offer - and that’s the truth!

I have 2 blogs, one is a network status blog and the other one was hacked up to work as an equipment data repository. The equipment page was set up to show posts in the main section in alphabetical order.

On the network status blog I successfully added a "recent posts" list to the sidebar.

On the equipment page I copied the recent posts from the network status page and altered it to show the equipment posts based on the category they're in. Unfortunately, when you select a category it only shows the last entry for that category in the sidebar. What I need is for it to show all the posts for a given category.

I'm not to familiar with PHP so a lot of my work was copy/paste trial and error.

Here's what I have on the equipment page sidebar

<h2><?php _e('Towers'); ?></h2>
<ul>

               <a href="<?php the_permalink() ?>" rel="bookmark">
                    <?php the_title(); ?>
               </a>
          </div>
     </li>
</ul>

Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

I would like provide a link to the page, but it contains sensitive information so I can't.

Hi Everyone,

As my topic suggests, is there a plugin/hack (or anything) that can display a "Title Image" for each blog post based on the category?

Example:

Lets say I publish a blog in a category called "Sports". Within the body of the blog, there will be a medium sized sports related image.

Now, I publish another blog in the same category, the same image appears here too.

If I publish another blog in a category called "Cars", there will be a medium sized car related image within the body of the blog.

Am I confusing anyone?

Basically, take a look here:
http://php-fusion.co.uk/news.php

Scroll down till you see:

blockquote

News
Arabian Supportsite is open!

blockquote

Anyone with any suggestions?

Thank you.

We run WP on a server with many users. We would prefer

i want an album reviews section.
So, why not use categories for that?

Just to make it clear: on Pages you cannot display multiple content! (well, you can, it takes a lot of useless work)

The simple way for you should be NOT Pages but Category Templates. (that's why it is always better to tell what you'd like to to achieve - it's easier to get an answer)

Summary. Make your reviews a category and display them on a differently designed Category Template.

i think what you've said should suffice, i wasn't aware of the template selection when adding a new page.

basically, i want an album reviews section. i've got a plugin for adding them (to allow for extra data), but obviously i'd like the album reviews pages/archives to appear different to the other standard news/etc archive pages.

i also want to be able to link to the latest album reviews from a side menu on the main page, which i think i'll be able to achieve using what you've mentioned.

i've no problem coding straight php/sql queries to do it all, but i'm trying to keep it integrated with wordpress as much as possible.

I am the one who is getting confused :)
Maybe we are not talking about the same thing?
Template files are all the files in your theme:
http://codex.wordpress.org/Theme_Development#Theme_Template_Files_List
Pages - a specific feature of WP, different from posts:
http://codex.wordpress.org/Pages

When you create a new Page in admin > Write > Write Page, you can select (on the right) which Page template to use to display it.
Note: if you have only 1 (one) Page template in your theme, the option to select a template will NOT be displayed. You need at leats the default
page.php
AND another Page template.

hi guys, had a search but didn't turn anything up.

want i'm wanting to do is create more pages based on index.php (which by default loads the index.php from the template directory).

example to begin i'd like to duplicate index.php as say reviews.php, and have this load the content of 'reviews.php' in the template directory. At this stage if i create an exact match of index.php as reviews.php in the main site folder, reviews.php will still load the index.php template file. I'm a little confused as to the coding of wordpress to change this.

any ideas or workarounds?
thanks

'how would I do it?'

you just 'do it'. the same as any other design. except you might find you need to put more things into one file, or start and end the table in different files, etc.

for instance:

header.php starts mega table, first row is header, spanning however many columns you'd have (lets say two). then opens a new row.

index.php is wrapped in a td as one big cell (but could also then embed a table inside the cell, with each post as a row, etc.), and closes it before including the sidebar.

sidebar.php is wrapped in a cell as well, the second column of the row.

footer.php closes the 'content and sidebar' row, makes another row for the footer, and then closes up the table.

-d

yeah, its weird that there aren't many. there are pros and cons, but the fact is simply that i like tables better. regardless of any argument against them.

Hi,

I am working on one currently, intend to straighten it out to the point of being simple and as compliant as possible and will release it then, precisely because there are no good tabled themes out there.

There are many quite valid reasons for needing a tabled theme, but no one so far catered to those needs. WP ought to stock at least 2-3 good tabled themes for such situations.

I've been looking around and all the themes I find use CSS layouts. I realize this is the future and whatnot, but at the moment I am more comfortable using good old tables.

So basically, my question is, can I make a WP theme using tables, or is it not possible? How would I do it?

But the categories aren't listed by date; I can't get a listing of all posts in the "Uncategorized" category for only the month of January and another list for only the month of February and so on. I wonder, though, if Ultimate Tag Warrior would help make this possible. Again, I'm not sure of how to list category posts for only a selected month. All I've seen is the list of all posts within a category. I'll assume you've already looked through the Codex.
