I have Article Directory installed (both plugin and theme) and it's working well except when I search on a term, I get a list of posts but no post titles. Oddly enough the links in the section above the search box disappear as well, again only in search; they work fine everywhere else.

Any ideas?

Hi Michael, I am currently developing a website, using a design company to build it for my company Principle First. I have asked them to develop this in wordpress, because I see the value of continuous updates rather than going with a cms system. They have come back to me today after 3 months of work to tell me that they want to start again using another cms. They have tried de activating plug ins and they are not happy with the cache plugin or super cache plug in as they want the experience for the first time visitor to be positive. Another problem is the manipulation of the page structure, and they are worried that when putting more tools like pension calculators etc on the site things may slow advise down further. can you advise current site sitting on http://www.principlefirst.co.uk/wp

I've followed the directions on the plugin and it doesn't display a thing. Just a blank page. There is no FAQ or troubleshooting or contact information on the author's site. It looks like a great plugin if it would actually work. Right now it's just a waste of time.

Hi there,

I am trying out your plugin. I am using with a different theme. I put added the extra insert to index.php and to the css file. However when I go to your plugin and request 2 or three colums, it only provides me with 1.

Is there something that I can do to fix this? It's quite a nice plugin. I just need to get the extra colums.

Thanks

No plugin necessary. Just make a static page your front page (see Administration > Settings > Reading).

Don't be confused by what an archive is--it is just a generated display of your posts at that moment. You don't do anything to create the archive, that's an automatic thing WordPress does for you. Usually, archives are date, category, tag, or author, based.

I am more interested in the CMS capabilities of WordPress than the blogging component. I want to create an article directory and be able to post articles directly to categories without posting to the blog. Or if I do post to the blog, is there a way to archive articles immediately, whenever I want, instead of every week or month? Is there a plugin that will give me these abilities? I can pay someone who can help me set this up. Thanks!!!

I see upon further review of this plugin that...

With plugin installed and permalinks settings on. When a user clicks on a categorie name that is empty of posts, it goes to a page not found page..

But.. when a user clicks on a categorie that is not empty, it takes to the correct permalinked page...

So..is there a setting i might be able to change? Example of...

hide_empty (boolean) Toggles the display of categories with no posts. The default is true (hide empty categories). Valid values:
1 (true) - default
0 (false)

I am having an error with your plugin, while trying to use a permalinks setting other than the default one.

I uninstall your plugin, and permalinks work just fine. So i know its not a mod rewrite issue.

I setup a new unmodified installation to try this out. And still the same problem.

I am going to use a show printable version plugin and secondly an email post plugin if the end user needs the html of an article for their syndication needs I am just going to assume they smart enough to get it from one of those methods. If they then they probably shouldn't be being playing with html in the first place.

That's an excellent idea, kulpreetsingh. But there are also some mega category plugins that might help accomplish what Karman wants. Start here:

Category Magic
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/category-magic/#post-2323

Article Directory:
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/article-directory/#post-4677

Front Page Categories (this was written by WP Dev Ryan Boren)
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/my-category-order/#post-5005

There's one out there, Category Overload, that I've never been able to get to work; maybe it just doesn't play nice with my other plugins:
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/category-admin/#post-53

I would suggest you use "All," "Fulltime," and "Freelance" as categories, then "Webdesign," "Programming," and "Content" as tags.

I'm currently using Wordpress to setup a project which will lists jobs. The first parent categories look like this:

- All (Showing all jobs in all categories)
- Fulltime (Showing all jobs sorted as Fulltime)
- Freelance (Showing all jobs sorted as Freelance)

That is not a problem, but I have not found a solution to the next round of categories, as I will have 3-4 child categories under the three parent categories. The child categories will have the same names for all parent categories.

Example:
- ALL
- Webdesign (Showing both Fulltime & Freelance)
- Programming (Showing both Fulltime & Freelance)
- Content (Showing both Fulltime & Freelance)

- FULLTIME
- Webdesign (Showing Fulltim)
- Programming (Showing Fulltime)
- Content (Showing Fulltime)

- FREELANCE
- Webdesign (Showing Freelance)
- Programming (Showing Freelance)
- Content (Showing Freelance)

I hope you understand what I want to accomplish, some sort of child categories working for diffrent parent categories or sorting posts in Fulltime and Webdesign by something like /fulltime/webdesign/.

How should I solve this?

Sounds like a useful plugin but as far as I'm concerned, making this show in a page instead of the sidebar would be more practical for me. I tried following the instructions on your site's posts but couldn't even find rssfeed.php file.

BTW, better fix your comments Spam Protection question, 4 + 9 DOES equal 13.

It depends on what template file you are using in your theme to display the so-called category archives aor category listings.
See Template Hierarchy. The best method is to have an archive.php file or a category.php file and use the_excerpt in it instead of the_content. Hope this helps.

Hi rudolf45

Thanks, that clarified things a bit. Now how do I get my categories or sub-categories to display a summary or tidbit of the article/post instead of the entire thing.

Sorry for being so bothersome.

Thanks in advance

Every post (artcile, whatever you call them) can be and is displayed on its own - in the so-called "single post view". Just click on the title of any post.
