It was working before, but now even with the configuration set so there is no wait-time after a user login, it takes about 5 seconds or so for the user to be logged in.

In order to use AJAX Login with WordPress 2.7 you need to edit the al_template.php file. Everything works without editing it except logging out.(Plus it may not work completely with a custom theme unless you work on it.) I made a guide on how to edit the php file here.

AJAX Login allows you to place a widget in you sidebar for quick login. After it confirms your username and password it refreshes to same page you were on last or redirects you the page you set in the dashboard settings.

The plugin can be downloaded from Here.

Sorry, but the creator of the plugin didn't make it with a lightbox interface. It's just a widget for instant login on your blog.

Hope this helps. :)

unfortunately this doesnt work.
i have tried putting the code as you say in both places and when attempting to login it still shows the login page in the old fashioned way.

What i really want is the login page to open up a lightbox type screen with the login request box in it!

anybody knows if the author stopped developing this plugin?

as far as i read the previous threads there is a simple way to hack it for wp2.7 compability. i just want to know it, because always when i try to hack some features i need into a plugin-code, there´s a new version including the features some weeks after and all my work was done for nothing. so, dear Jonas Einarsson, if you read this: please provide a working plugin-forum/site/whatever.

With help from here. I have created an al_template that is compatible with wordpress 2.7 for AJAX Login. :D

This template will say "Logged in as 'you username here' " when you are logged in. I also made it so the username is a link to the dashboard. that way I could get rid the the meta widget. Logging out will take redirect you to the page you were last visiting.

To install, replace all code in "al_template.php" in "wp-content/plugins/ajax_login" with the coding below,
or save the coding below as "al_template.php" and place it in your current theme's folder.

You may need to edit this in order to make it match your theme. (I tested it with wordpress's classic and default theme and they worked. But as we know not all themes work the same. ;) )

If you are using a Luckytheme.com theme. then all you should need to do is rename all "<h2></h2>" tags to "<h1></h1>"

Hope this works for ya! :D

Credit goes to Jonas Einarsson for making AJAX Login,
and forum members Branch and Infected for finding 2.7 compatible logout code.

<?php

/**********************

This is the default template for AJAXLOGIN.

Please do make a copy and put in your theme directory.

Elements which always must exist:
- The forms al_registerForm, al_loginForm and al_lostPassword
- The message spans al_registerMessage, al_loginMessage and al_lostPasswordMessage

Elements that must exist for the al_show****()-functions to work (recommended!)
- al_loading
- al_login
- al_register
- al_lostPassword

Just follow the format of the original al_template.php and you should be safe.

I know that the original does not conform to XHTML validation because of the <style>-tag. Just copy the styles you are using to your own CSS and you'll validate just fine.

The surrounding <li> are only there for widget compability.

***********************/
?>

<?php
global $user_ID, $user_identity;
get_currentuserinfo();
if (!$user_ID) {

Background:
I am using WP 2.6 and the K2 template. I use some custom CSS to increase the fontsize used in the sidebar. The result is, the Ajax Login widget does not fit the 175px specified in its CSS code anymore.

Problem:
The resulting problem is that the Register/ForgotPassword links are cut off and not visible to the user.

Solution:
My solution needs editing the al_template.php file. I recommend either removing the following code

#al_loading, #al_login, #al_register, #al_lostPassword {
height: 175px;
}

...because to me, the height specification does not seem necessary, or else to use min-height instead of height.

Maybe the author of the Ajax Login plugin can include this fix in the next version!?

The odd thing is that I have it working on one of my sites which is definitely running WP 2.5.1. No errors - knock wood. The theme is heavily modified, so I'd probably done something at some point.

But every time I try to use it out of the box on a new WP install I get errors.

Does anyone know of any other login plugin that doesn't send the user to another page?

I'm looking for just the same kind of code, plugin or widget. I want the user to click the "read more" link at the bottom of the blog entry on the front page. Then, one of a few things happen:
(a) if the user is not registered, s/he is asked to do so;
(b) if the user is registered, but not logged in, s/he is asked to log in to the site; or
(c) if the user is registered and logged in, s/he is sent to the full blog post.

Any thoughts?

is there any other plugin which is similar to Ajax login : http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/ajax-login/

or if this plugin can be upgraded to make it work for 2.5.1

or if someone can tell me that how can I show the login/register form on any other page other than the admin panel and upon successful login the person should be redirected to a separate page instead of the dashboard.

This plugin might not work in Wordpress 2.5 since the password hasing etc. is done differently from previous versions of Wordpress. A lot of people are struggling with this change (for instance, Gallery2 integration plugin).

Hi people! I've the same problem using wp 2.5 beta1, wp 2.3.3 and wp 2.3.2. and with both ie and ff..

I'm using ajax-login version 1.0. The plugin uses the normal wordpress 2.2 authentication process as cut'n'pasted from wp-login.php so I don't know if authentication works different in newer versions or something like this...

Anybody can help us please? this plugin is great and there's no other plugin like this (why?) a lot of photo plugins, media, seo but nothing to integrate the login in the frontpage with ajax style..

Thanks in advance!

It's difficult without seeing the HTML -- can you post a link? I wonder if the IE errors can be avoided by using getElementById() rather than
al_loginForm.log
and
al_registerForm.user_login
.

I've installed the Ajax login plugin on 2.3.3 and it works GREAT in Firefox, does exactly what it's supposed to do. However - the javascript is pulling errors in IE - does anyone know enough about this to offer a fix?

The errors:
al_registerForm.user_login is null or not an object
al_loginForm.log is null or not an object

from the JS:

function al_showRegister2() {

document.getElementById("al_loading").style.display = "none";
	document.getElementById("al_register").style.display = "block";

	al_registerForm.user_login.focus();
}

function al_login() {

	if (0 != al_status) {
 return;
	}

	if (al_loginForm.log.value == '') {
 alert("Please enter username.");
 al_loginForm.log.focus();
 return;
	}

	if (al_loginForm.pwd.value == '') {
 alert("Please enter password.");
 al_loginForm.pwd.focus();
 return;
	}

	al_sack.setVar("log", al_loginForm.log.value);
	al_sack.setVar("pwd", al_loginForm.pwd.value);
	al_sack.setVar("rememberme", al_loginForm.rememberme.value);

	al_sack.requestFile = al_base_uri + "/wp-content/plugins/ajax-login/login.php";
	al_sack.method = "POST";
	al_sack.onError = al_ajaxError;
	al_sack.onCompletion = al_loginHandleResponse;
	al_sack.runAJAX();
	al_status = 1;

}
