The new user name and password sent me by support still doesn't allow me to log into my blog, but the same user/password combination allowed me to log into this blog to find out why I can't log into my blog.

I have a blog installed with a registered domain but can get only as far as the Hello World page.

I'm having the same problem and have tried:

1) Thomas' method of renaming the plugins directory
2) Using the emergency PHP code
3) Reinstalling the WordPress files (many times) and the database file
4) Editing the user info in the database with phpMyAdmin as described in the codex. (this offered the best clue, as the editing didn't seem to work and it just kept defaulting to the original values like it was somehow locked).

None of this has worked. ???

I'm currently trying to update from 2.5.1 to 2.8, but in the past have had the same problem, which is why I haven't updated in so long. After having a similar problem with 2.7x, I reinstalled 2.5.1 which worked. I seem permanently stuck in 2.5.1!

The website itself (www.helifreewasatch.com) is currently viewable with 2.8, but as I can't log in and update it, it is a moot point.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

I've tried all the fixes with no success...I've renamed the plugin files, changed password through phpAdmin, tried different browsers, did a fresh install, and even tried installing old back ups - none would give me access. My login page would just keep reloading and not doing anything, and not giving any error messages.

Then I found this script for emergency wordpress login - and it worked like a charm...
http://codex.wordpress.org/Resetting_Your_Password
scroll to bottom of the page for information on the emergency script

I am new to WP and my hosting company offers a 1-click install. After installing I was unable to initialize a login. I keep getting a cleared and fresh wp-login.php page. I have tried all of the solutions...hopefully correctly...and have not gotten any results. I even tried Thomas' solution:
Clearing cookies, cache etc, didn't solve anything.

Since I still had FTP access I tried the following:

1. via ftp rename "wp-content" > "plugins" to "1.plugins"
2. create new dir "plugins"
3. login to wp (which now worked for me)
4. via ftp remove empty "plugins" created in step 2
5. and rename "1.plugins" back to "plugins"
but this didn't solve my problem. I had an issue with my phpbb3 install also but found that initial usernames can NOT be in CAPS. I thought WP would be the same.

I am illiterate of MySQL and Coding but believe I have followed the steps as suggested. Any other suggestions?

EDIT:
also, when I go to my blog I get an error:

Redirect Loop

Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete.

The browser has stopped trying to retrieve the requested item. The site is redirecting the request in a way that will never complete.

    * Have you disabled or blocked cookies required by this site?
* NOTE: If accepting the site's cookies does not resolve the problem, it is likely a server configuration issue and not your computer.

This happened to me when I upgraded via FTP while being logged in. I had to go to the Meta Login and click logout and everything turned out fine after that. It was very frustrating. Chances are, you are still logged in. Try using another browser, or clearing cookies and sessions.

I haven't logged in for several months. I hadn't installed any plugins recently. Today I cannot login.

I use safari and when I goto my podcast, www.ryanstatespodcast.com, I get a malware warning page. I go anyway and click login. I may have forgotten my username/password combination, so I click "forgot password". But wordpress no longer recognizes my email address??? When I typed the username it said to check my email for new password, but they haven't sent me anything. I checked all old email addresses and spam folders too.

I'd rather use a service that has customer services even if it costs a lot because I can't afford to lose literally DAYS to typical wordpress problems. Can anybody recommend something better?

Wow, I never expected to be writing this addition to this thread - I just upgraded one of my blogs from 2.5 (yes, I know, should have done that a long time ago) to 2.6.5 (the recent security fix) - and encountered this exact same problem when trying to log in.

@thomascim's solution re plugin directories solved the problem.

I had this problem too, but interestingly enough it only happened after I didn't login for a few weeks, before that it worked perfectly fine, nothing happened after I upgraded or anything. was really confused after this, tried clearing out cookies, new password (at first I thought I really did forget it, but I didn't), editing wp-login file, nothing.

But Thomas's method worked for me, so thanks so much!
also, just to make sure it wasn't a fluke I logged out and back in again and it was working just fine, so if nothing else worked yet, try this! just remember to reactivate any plugins you had before, or you'll get errors

Hi,

I had the same problem with my blog (geekynomad.com version 2.6.2).

For me this solved the problem.

Best regards,

Thomas
