The short solution is this: Don't switch. Pick visual or html editor and stick with it.

And you're right, it's not a true WYSIWYG editor, but it's both onerous and nigh impossible to make one that works without putting a lot of junk in your HTML. There isn't a single one on the entire internet that fulfills every need that people have for a visual editor. Yet.

Not only that, I can't get things to appear in preview or after posting the way they appear in the visual editor I create in the first place.

That may be due to your CSS in your theme, but without specific examples (and probably actually looking at your site) no one can help you there.

Why do people keep defending the way Wordpress butchers code and pretend that it doesn't? No wonder nothing ever gets fixed in this terrible editor.

I am trying to edit a simple post, and every time I switch to html view and back, my post has completely changed and everything is a mess.

Not only that, I can't get things to appear in preview or after posting the way they appear in the visual editor I create in the first place. What junk.

A pity they refuse to just fix the stupid thing.

Ordering is something I'm looking to add in the next release, which will be basic number ordering. Perm cache is also on my list of things to add in the next release.

I understand about paging. Send me a proposal of how it could be implemented, and I'll consider it.

Still looking for that permanent cache option and would really be nice to be able to be able to sort the portfolio listings how we choose. Such as newest to oldest or the regular alphabetical that is being done now. I had made changes to the source, but unfortunately were overwritten by the latest update to your plugin.

I understand your grouping option, but sometimes paging is needed within groups as well. =/

I might just end up adding these features myself and create a fork of this plugin, but i dont really see the need to that if we just work together on it.

I dont allow users to register, but i do want them to be able to subscribe to a few categories, so I have a few questions. I looked for answers on the website and read the faq, but things seemed a bit out of date, so i wasnt sure if they were still the same.

1) Can users select which categories they want to subscribe to? (obviously out of the list the admin has chosen)

2) I tried subscribing as a public user and when i clicked on the confirmation link the email i received. It just took me to the homepage of the site and according to the admin area, im not confirmed. I would have thought it would have taken me to the page where i have the subscribe to plugin embeded. I am using permalinks and i am using the newest version of subscribe 2 and wp as of the time of this writing.

3) Can users select which delivery format they want to receive?

Thanks, I really appreciate the help. i am planning on donating to the project as soon as i figure out if i can even use the plugin for my purposes. =)

Hi, thank you for your feedback.

1) Some people have websites changing all the time, such as moi. I'll think about how I could allow thumbnails to kept permanently.

2) No paging as yet. I intend to create a way of only showing certain groups on a given page, allowing you to define your own paging system by separating sites into different groups.

Not everyone uses the standard wp-content folder for their plugins.

WP_CONTENT_DIR and the corresponding WP_CONTENT_URL for the entire wp-content directory

These also exist, but you probably don't need to use them:
WP_PLUGIN_DIR -- plugins directory (full server path)
PLUGINDIR -- (deprecated) plugin directory relative to ABSPATH

I recommend putting this in the start of your plugin somewhere:

if ( ! defined( 'WP_CONTENT_URL' ) )
define( 'WP_CONTENT_URL', get_option('url') . '/wp-content' );
if ( ! defined( 'WP_PLUGIN_URL' ) )
define( 'WP_PLUGIN_URL', WP_CONTENT_URL. '/plugins' )

...and then use URLs based on WP_PLUGIN_URL when calling scripts

Would be nice to have the option of permanently keeping the cached image of the site. Sometimes clients make changes and gank up the design and we obviously dont want our portfolio to show that. I just dont see the point in creating new ones at all really.

I have a custom path for my wp-content folder, which is something that is supported by WP. But unfortunately it doesnt appear that your plugin correctl handles it. when i go to install a plugin, i get an error (this is before i even start it):

Warning : The folder /home/username/public_html//home/username/public_html/site_content/plugins/ must be writable by PHP for the plugin installer to work. See Changing File Permissions for a general guide on how to fix this.

I use suPHP, so all folders/files are obviously already writable. Its just getting the path messed up as you can see. Any ideas? I absolutely love your plugin.

True, i could do that for myself, but i couldnt do that for every single user. Its definitely spammy though to not have a disable option within the plugin config. Most people will say its very intrusive and almost adware. If it was just within the plugin config area it would be different.

I was just about the post a new thread, and here it was, at the top of the list. I embrace the auto
<p>
tag. But why on Jah's green earth can't we decide to omit it in html view?? That's where I'm stumped.

This is frustrating, because when I insert an image into my post, I don't want it wrapped in a p tag.

The reason is, the image will then pick up my p tag hover properties (in Firefox), Which looks janky (a dotted underline when you hover, pushing everything below the image down when you hover over it). Even with special classes applied to the image, I can't stop the hover, because its applied to the p tag.

Thanks for the info - I've been using Headspace 2 - site wide tab auto formatting, and WP unformatted
I think I'll give your suggestion a whirl - seems more flexible than WP unformatted.
I gave up on FCKEditor too - you use certain functionalities like NextGen button and the like.

Hi!

Since I've been very sensible to the auto formatting problem (I couldn't believe that one huge problem with WP could be about what is primarly meant for: writing), here is one thing I am going to try:

http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/ps-disable-auto-formatting/

This plugin shoul ddisable the annoying auto fromatting.

I say "should", because I just gave it a look, and it seems to do the job.

I was actually running the Dean's FCKEditor plugin as well, but it bothers me because of the different look whith the rest of the interface (oh, these designers!!!).

Anyway, let me know what you think about the plugin. it could really be the missing option that WP doesn't seem to give us.

;-)
