I got the same thing, and was about to restore from backup when I discovered that removing the .maintenance file at the root completely reversed the damage from activation.

Hope you find the same applies to you (it saved me hours of work).

Hi there, I just installed Wordpress 2.8 and im using Dreamhost as my web host provider. I have been setting everything up and I noticed when I went to create my Feedburner ID that my RSS feed is not working. It gives me some kind of error and I have no idea what it means or even how to fix it. So any help would be awesome.

My RSS feed is: http://www.kickthestereo.com/?feed=rss2

And, the error Firefox gives me is:

XML Parsing Error: XML or text declaration not at start of entity
Location: http://www.kickthestereo.com/?feed=rss2
Line Number 613, Column 1:<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
^

And, if your using Internet Explorer 8 then it just shows the XML code. Nothing more.

Feedburner won't even take it unless this is fixed and no one will be able to use my RSS feeds. Thanks for any help.

Database is setup using phpMyAdmin, I've uploaded wordpress files in wwwroot folder using FTP and edited wp-config file too. However, running install script results in "Page not found" error.
I am trying to move to a new host, in my naive way i thought i could just take my complete backup and be up and running on my new host....I have since discovered that no this is not the case. All i get is a page saying there is an internal configuration error.

Can someone give me a step by step quick guide as to how to do this?
(I hope this is not mission impossible? surely people must have had to move hosts and servers before?)
Many thanks

This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can't contact the database server at localhost. This could mean your host's database server is down.

use your ftp client, or the host's file manager and rename the plugins directory.

better?

if so, than you need to figure out which plugin(s) are causing the problem.
