Does anyone know if there's any work being done to fix the problems with using the XMLRPC interface with third party apps? While WordPress is a terrific product, I would like to be able to use applications such as NetNewsWire (my personal favorite) or ecto (am I the only one who gets confused about the interface?) to update my blogs.
I did a search in these forums, and there seems to be other people wondering the same, but no clear answer has been given from the developers.
I consider myself an adequate PHP developer, so I might be able to figure it out on my own (and would of course submit the solution to the WordPress team). But before I dive into the code, it would be nice to know if anyone is already working on this.
I'm the developer who does most of the work on the XML-RPC API support. Unfortunately, I don't have access to a Mac, so I can't debug with NetNewsWire to determine why it has problems.
I do most my testing against w.bloggar (for testing the Blogger API) and Zempt (for testing the MovableType API). I know that there have been problems with posting from NewzCrawler, and I even gave the NewzCrawler developers access to my WP test blog, but we still haven't worked out the source of the problems.

Hi dougal!
Do you maybe have an access to Linux. I am trying to post to WP 1.3alpha with BloGTK 1.0 (http://blogtk.sourceforge.net/) but it does not work.
BloGTK supports Blogger, MT & MetaWeblog APIs.
It's very nice client for posting to WP, but it looks that something changed in xmlrpc.php from 1.2.x --> 1.3.x?
Sincerely,
Gour
Will xmlrpc be rereleased in the download pakcage? It was removed from the 1.2.1 package, so quite a few people deleted it, but the mods here say that was a mistake. Will it be returning soon?

just an fyi--
i just wanted to confirm that in my experience ecto 1.1.8 for MacOS 10.3 works with 1.2 Mingus. i have not upgraded WP to 1.21 or 1.3. ecto 2 looks really cool (partic the rich-text editor) -- hope it still works.
