Web-based install wizard or script

Almost every other blog/cms system I've used (xoops was the easiest but I've run maybe 5 others for testing) have an install where you upload all the files, run install.htm or something like that. The webpage asks you for information regarding your setup such as the db info, various initial config options, etc.

Compare this to wordpress which requires one to edit a text file manually, rename it, and upload it. Not very hard for me, but a big turn-off to average joes trying to setup an easy blog which is powerful and looks great.

yeahh, mu.wordpress does that. I personally dont like that because the DB username and password is SENSATIVE information!. i dont know if i want to trasmit this over plain http. Everyone does it i know!

I personally think that this would be a great feature.

Yep, as nbachiyski noted above, this is already in WordPress, I believe added in 1.5. Going to mark this as "implemented."

If you load WP before there is a wp-config.php file, it should point you to the setup script which does exactly what you describe.
