Video Quicktag

Maybe this is already part of 2.1, but the vaious plugins for adding video require adding the tags by hand. Also, if you go back to edit the post some part of Tiny MCE removes the tags, forcing you to add them again.

A video quicktag (for Google, YouTube, Flash Video) would be a huge improvement. Again, if that's in 2.1 my apologies for not knowing it.

  2. Personally, I think this is better kept out of the core. While useful, I don't think the majority of users post videos, plus how do we decide what sites to support and what not to?

Plus, there are many plugins such as mine that require adding nothing but the URL to the video by hand. ;)

    Viper,

Your plugin looks good. I may have to try it.

I still think Google and YouTube compatibility is pretty basic to blogging these days.

I use Viper's plugin and it works well, but I agree with captainhendry that Google and YouTube compatibility should be standard.

theres no harm in making life easier,
wordpress.com blogs already support youtube videos with the <youtube> or <video> tag (i forgot, plus i didnt try google video, so it might work with that too)
so i dont see any reason for this feature to be implemented on the stand-alone installation of wordpress

These features that only a fraction of users will use ... are why there's a plugin system.
