Video Encoding/Embedding

WordPress does a pretty good job handling images, but video is still lacking.

It would be great if ffmpeg is installed it could utilize it to encode videos into FLV, H.264, and WebM to facilitate self hosting video and provide the necessary embed code to figure out the best encoding for the client.

Yes! I've been thinking of a feature like this for a long time...

It would also be nice to encode it into ogg theora as well.

I tried so many plugins to get self-hosted video to play smoothly. Right now I have blubrry powerpress which is supposed to support multiple media formats.

But in ie the playback is choppy.
And if I install a cache program to speed things up, Chrome crashes.

How does this work for you? (video top right)

right, i miss that as well, even so i would be even happy to provide the different formats. But why do i have to install a plugin for a core video functionallity. i don't ask for more, just i.e. a <video> tag or something like that...
