    Firefox isn't the best alternative, I think Chrome is the future. <q> support is good, I agree with that.

    Up to my experience I could say that the tags always denotes quoatations. However let me try on different browsers.

    There's now a plugin called Quote Tag that replaces <q> with italic text within quotes (i.e. "this is a quote") - so if you use the <q> tag then this appears properly in all browsers (with the Quote Tag plugin).
