Thumbnail and image resizing

Thats one of the most important things for me.

There must be options for squared, cropped thumbnails with the possibility to set an individual size.

For Photoblogs and even normal weblogs, that would be a real "must have"!

I agree with this suggestion a lot.

However, I would also add that I'd like to see a variable that allows us to set the quality of the resized image. Right now I use a little hack to add "100" to the image resize string which increases the quality of the produced thumbnail noticeably, albeit at the expense of larger file size.

Perhaps one option might be to allow for the option of using one of the GD libraries or even ImageMagick. Allowing for the use of either of these, as an option, would open the door to complete control over images, and from everythng to applying sharpness to adjusting contrast, and even online cropping.

One further suggestion would be to have an option of bulk image uploading and processing, allowing for tar and zips, for example.

This is a must have. I find that I spend too much time in apps resizing photos for the web. We all know that php can do this, wp just needs to add it in..! It would be awesome.

This seems like a great idea, but I have to wonder whether the focus shouldn't be more on making the image-uploading and linking a target for plugin developers, and/or making the existing plugins that deal with this more prominent and easily discoverable.

What I mean is: although I occasionally post photos on my blog, this is WordPress, after all ... and there are a lot of really excellent photo managing web tools already out there which are also written in PHP and are license compatible with WordPress ... we should encourage a system based on the integration of these tools, rather than reinventing the wheel.

Image resizing and management I think is the most needed thing. Currently wordpress is so limited in this area. This is one of the most difficult areas.

I've been using some plugins, most notably photopress.

I'd love to have this functionality built into wordpress in some way!

I also agree... my wife uses her blog to put some pics up and she is forever complaining about how difficult the photo handling is.
I also agree with the ability to add a CSS class to an image, very useful.

This may be the one thing that's keeping me from moving my photoblog to WordPress from Movable Type. WP has been lapped by just about every other CMS out there on this feature, and it needs to catch up.

I agree with Jaykul, integrating existing (and licensecompatible) image managers is the way to go.

there's already one plugin that works perfectly and provides nearly everything one can think of in terms of image management (except adjusting the quality of thumbs iirc) have a look at this idea

Wow, that's an amazing plugin. Now I won't have to pre-size everything in Photoshop.

I agree that if this is available it should be added to the distribution immediately. I can't imagine who would not want the ability to size and crop photos from the blog itself.
