how would i tag something like San Francisco?, or do you suggest i should use quotation marks for tags that have multiple words?

i don't see it happen, comma's work perfectly and are pretty much industry standard. be it wordpress, adobe lightroom, google picasa, or pretty much anything else.

I'm inclined to agree with bl0m5t3r, If spaces were the default separator for tags then it would be really easy to create a mess with Tags and not even know it.

We all use spaces when we write an idea here to separate tags so I can't see it being really easy to make a mess, otherwise surely most ideas here would be a tag mess... at least give us the option to use spaces. Woud that not not be easy enough to set up from the admin panel?

What benefit would we (we as in the other 99% of the WP community) gain by this? Are you missing a comma on the keyboard or something?

As mentioned above: how do we separate multiple-word tags, such as "Big Dog," "Small Dog," or "Stupid Dog"? Commas are a preferred solution for this because this is how we separate things, at least in English and quite a few other languages.

No. You used spaces to separate tags, which didn't really separate them into individual tags at all.

    Tags: tags spaces commas post

Yes, that's one tag, not four.

This is plugin territory. Since most of the rest of the web uses commas to separate tags in entry fields, we will continue to do the same.
