Strip tag option

An option to stip excess HTML formatting info from text that has been pasted from web or email. This option would get rid of all of the excess <font> and formatting info in the text.

WP's rich text editor (TinyMCE) does this to an extent, plus you can configure what tags you want it to strip if you know the insides of TinyMCE. Also take a look at wp-includes/kses.php . Not sure how you would keep everyone happy if stricter tag stripping was implemented in the core. Some people want to keep whatever they paste in, others don't. Plugin territory I think.

In WP2.1, hit ALT+V (IE) or ALT+SHIFT+V (Firefox) and use the 'paste as plain text'-button.

What the developers ought to do is to allow, built into the core, a very easy way to expose further functions that are already built into TinyMCE. I've been searching like crazy and have found ways to do it, but I wouldn't call any of them easy, and they're all going to get overwritten every time I update WP.

I also think there should be an option for having the editor automatically clean up nasty html such as gets pasted from Word or IE.

Have a look at htmLawed, selectively filters tags/attributes, and is WordPress-compatible.
