SQLLite is part of PHP5, and as an embedded database could make WP a lot easier to initially set up, as well as a lot cheaper on many ISPs (mine requires an account upgrade for a mysql database).

I'd much rather see this than PostgreSQL support.

Recognizing that such a change requires a great deal of adaptation, it still seems an important recommendation because MySQL has changed its licensing.

I have completed an initial release of a 'plugin' that will provide support for sqlite. i have been running my site on it for a week now and all core functionality appears to work. there are some problems with badly written plugins (that don't properly implement the WP API) and new plugins sometimes throw up interesting issues to fix.

i will post a first code drop in the next couple of days on my site at rathercurious.net

Great idea, then I can take the file and move the entire WP from the server to my local WP installation. Really useful
