Private blog

   I'm so frustrated that there isn't an easy way to make a WordPress blog private. I host on my own server, and WordPress won't let me make my blog private.

   Password protecting individual posts is a ridiculous option. I want to make my blog accessible to <b>logged-in-users only</b>. If they aren't logged in, they have to sign up, and I want to have to approve them before they have access to the blog.

   This seems like a simple thing, and I can't figure out why there isn't some way to make this work with WordPress 2.6. (I had a plugin that broke with WordPress 2.5, and I've taken down my blog since then until I can fix this problem.)

   If I can't resolve this soon, I'm going to have to find a new blogging platform. Content protection in my case is a CRITICAL feature.

   This kind of feature is more something in the lines of a true CMS. Consider ExpressionEngine or Joomla or Drupal.

   Also--I am only brainstorming here--what if you created a page that needed to have a log in and only use a special tag (or something like it) to denote that those posts are private?

   Can't you just password-protect the directory where you've installed your blog? That's what I've done with a couple of blogs I want to keep to myself. Easy with cPanel.

   Agree with goldeneagle. Should be easy to setup with your hosting software. That way, you can also add in other sites within if you wanted to.

   I think there should be a feature in setting that enables the user to make certain categories (or all of them) private by checking a box next to the category's name.

   Also, I think posts and pages should be easily become private by checking a box on the manage page.

   This is plugin territory for now. There has been discussion of having a core plugin that focuses on privacy settings in the future.
