Printer Friendly Button

I would like a "printer friendly" feature added.

This would work so that clicking on a post, or a page, or a section, or even the whole blog, could be output as a printer-friendly document for backup or other purposes.

It could be configurable so that it could be used by anyone, admin only, or whatever.

It would have a default font and layout that could be customized by a stylesheet change.

This sounds like a good idea, a plugin is available to do just this: WP-Print

WP-Print is not so easy to install and set up. I also can't see how to use it to print pages, categories or the whole blog. It has taken me a while to figure out how to get it working on my post pages.

A print option is also an accessibility option. Removing page clutter is not only good for screen readers, but removes distractions for the visually impaired.

Too few use WP-Print. Having a built-in print option throughout the blog, on pages, posts, archives, categories, etc., would be a huge accessibility improvement for WordPress readers.

This type of styling and layout should be handled by the theme.

For a "clean" print document, define a print.css, and link with media=print in the header.

For the other on-screen pages, define alternate template files, or alternate css files, and use them to display "printer-friendly".
