The "Coming soon. Very very soon. We promise. In the meantime: ..." has been on http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/ long enough.

This is a huge need. Please implement something similar to the Mozilla Firefox Extension/Add-ons repository. https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/extensions/

Ability to do categories, sort by popularity, sort by rating, user feedback, etc. No need to make this part of the site run on the WordPress engine; just use whatever Firefox uses as it is excellent at this type of functionality.

I'd like to see a guide (or home page) for each plugin category. There are sooo many plugins that do things very similarly and it would be nice if each category of plugin had its own "home page" that would illustrate the difference between each plugin as its added.

Kind of like when you are buying a basic, deluxe, or super-advanced version of software: it has a chart that lists all features that come with each version so you know what it can and can't do.

Authors would be the best to insert this info when uploading links to new plugins... :)

What the WP community really needs is an ULTIMATE PLUGIN list

So many plugins are garbage or built half-ass, would be nice to have gold star plugins that really work and are very rich in functionality

I'd like to see WP have it's own team of plugin developers no more third-party outdated non-supported stuff, something real

a large majority of plugins and hacks are so old and don't even work
