Plugin Compatibility Info Displayed in Plugin Description Field
It would be great to have a small bit of additional information in the Plugin Description field. Specifically, adding the WP version compatibility info right next to the Plugin version number. That way, if you have a lot of plugins, and a new version of WP is announced, you don't have to go through each individual Plugin description page to see if they've been updated yet for compatibility, before you go ahead and update WP itself. (Much easier to simply scan the one page, than researching many individual plugins, especially if you are dependent on specific ones for important site functionality you wouldn't want to break in the WP upgrade process).
Lack of updated Plugin Compatibilty does not always (or even often) mean the plugin isn't compatible. :/ it would not be as helpful as you think, especially if the plugin was compatible, so only the repository page was updated and no new version was pushed, so your copy has the old readme....
In 90% of the cases, there are no major changes in the WordPress framework programmatically (Vs. Graphics changes, adding features, etc.). I've found that in most cases, the plugins are compatible.
About your comment - there is no way around it as Mike noted. Even having such a field will not help - you have to check the plugin yourself.
would be nice if the system recognize which version you are, and put the compatible ones on top of the list.
Since that data is not reliable, it would be premature to do that at this time.
