Please re-include 'insert image' button on post toolbar

Since 2.6 the 'insert image' button and functionality has been missing from the toolbar, and it's a big loss. There are many of us who don't want to use the 'add media' route to insert a simple image in to a post, and the 'insert image' tool button was the perfect route to do this effectively without any flash uploader fuss.

Please re-enable this feature in 2.6.2 or whatever next patch version is released as the lack of this button has made WordPress more difficult and less user friendly to use

I have 2.6.1 and the "insert image" button is there. The flash upload is not mandatory. Things work great here, with one or many images to add. So what's really the problem?

The problem I see is that it takes anywhere from 3-20 seconds to load the code for the 'add media' lightbox. The old method used a basic file viewer and was nearly instantaneous.

Exactly - just please bring back the 'add image' button on the WYSIWYG toolbar, it was so much more efficient.

This is a HUGE problem for me. I sort my images into folders and upload them manually via FTP, as it suits me better to do it this way and makes backing up images from certain folder easy.

I know that you can use the flash uploader to point at the location of the uploaded images, but it's slower to do, you have insert the image before you can modify it's basic properties like border and alignment, and the text entry box doesn't 'remember' what's been typed in previously - something that the old one used to do, and which became a handy feature.

PLEASE bring back the old button and let us decide which one we want to use!

Holy cow -- I thought somehow the WYSIWYG toolbar got broken, especially since I have two blogs, and the "add image" button is only missing in one.

Thanks to this comment, I looked closer: 'add image' is missing from the blog that's using 2.6.1; 'add image' remains visible on the blog that's using 2.5.1.

The new "add an image" button adds little value for me:

    • The Flash version is unreliable.
    • The alignment options do not work with my theme (e.g., align left does not produce an image that aligns to the left and has text wrapping around it).
    • On the first pass, I can't enter both alt and title text without adding an unwanted caption. I have to put the image in and then edit the HTML.

Leave the new "add an image" button for those who want it, but please return the reliable "add image" button to the WYSIWYG toolbar.
