For years I've wanted permalinks which display the month name rather than the month number.

Seems a fairly basic requirement (and one which is available within Movable Type and other systems) which'll improve usuability for international users.

Agreed. Nice and simple idea. The number-centricity is probably a case of nerdview in that programmers like numbers.

Like others before us, I really want this feature, too. My current blog runs on URLs like /2010/sep/ and I'd like to maintain them now that I'm migrating to WordPress.

I spent some hours trying to create a plugin simply to have "jan", "feb", "mar", etc. replace the %monthnum% permalink tag and failed. It's not straightforward to replace WordPress's date permalink handling. I tried three or four different approaches with no luck.

If anyone has been successful with it, please post a reply.
